Bayern Munich could be down yet another starter heading into this weekend’s game against Hoffenheim.
According to multiple reports in Germany, Bayern captain Philipp Lahm went down under no challenge during practice on Tuesday at the club’s training ground Sabaner Strasse and was carted off the field with his hands covering his eyes. Bayern tweeted out an update about the injury saying that Lahm was undergoing an examination and a diagnosis would be made this evening.
If Lahm is out for this weekend, he joins a long list of Bayern players who are currently battling through injuries or recovering from major ones.
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and defender Jerome Boateng have been held out of training recently due to injuries and David Alaba, Javi Martinez, Holger Badstuber, Claudio Pizarro, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thiago Alcantara, and Pepe Reina are all rehabbing their longer-term injuries.
Here are some more stories to kick off your Tuesday:
MODRIC TO MISS 3-4 MONTHS
Real Madrid will be without one of their starting midfielders for the rest of 2014 and likely through the start of next year.
Croatian midfielder Luka Modric pulled up with an injury in the first half of Croatia’s match at Italy last Sunday and on Monday evening was diagnosed with a hip flexor tear, one that will keep him off the field through February 2015, according to reports in Spain.
“I felt a very strong pain in the upper part of my thigh. It still hurts. It is a shame, but football is like that,” Modric said after the game in Milan.
Modric has started 17 games so far this season in all competitions, scoring one goal and forming a strong partnership with Toni Kroos as a holding midfielder for Los Blancos.
THREE MARSEILLE PRESIDENTS ARRESTED
One of France’s biggest clubs is facing a massive off-the-field scandal.
Three Olympique Marseille presidents, two former and one current, were arrested on Tuesday by French police as an investigation continues into Andre Pierre Gignac’s transfer to the club in Aug. 2010.
Current club president Vincent Labrune was chairman of the supervisory board in 2010 under then-president Jean-Claude Dassier. Former president Pape Diouf and current Marseille CEO Philippe Perez.

“Match fixing a match”? Sounds serious.
I wonder if everyone will blame the team physio or coaching staff for all the injuries(just as jk was blamed for the muscle pulls at the WC). Obviously he is training them too hard(sarcasm).
It is weird. Everyone is blaming JK for muscle injuries but no one is blaming Sabella for Di Maria being unable to play in the final or not getting Messi fit before the WC started.(Messi may be a bit beyond his control but that’s the point I’m making.) Hey why not blame him for playing a half fit Aguero too much early on and making it worse.
Sabella is known as a tactical genius while Klinsmann is known as a dunce whose training sessions consist mostly of fitness routines.
this and there is the fact that DiMaria made it to the quarter finals before tearing a muscle while Jozy got injured 20 minutes into his first game. The other US muscle injuries and issues were also in the first game.
I’m sure Bayern regrets sending Julian Green out on loan. I bet they miss his Champions League experience right about now
Well, they still have the option of calling the greatest US player ever–who totally would have beat Belgium on his own–after this MLS season. After all, he did so well the last time he went there.
yeah, i can’t stand that guy.
