  1. Listening to Klinnsmans post game optimistic comments is exactly why we will never get any better. The US was clearly overmatched and outplayed throughout. I mean whatever happened to the high pressure, possession oriented style he promises time and time again? This is the same gameplan I have seen for years when we match up against the good teams outside of CONCACAF. It would be so refreshing for him to say that we just aren’t very good technically and don’t have the players to compete at the present with the best in the world. Then and only then can we begin to address our deficiencies as a team and setup.

  2. That second goal was sick. The power he puts behind that header is world class. Especially with Green on top of him.
We can talk coaches, tactics and players all we want but the truth is that we just don’t produce good enough players to play anything other than hustle football and hope we find a win somehow.
Klinsmann can promise possession soccer all he wants but until we have 11 players with above average soccer skills this is the best we can hope for.

    • I just noticed that Green made a good run to try to cover for Fabian totally letting his man go. I blamed Green initially but it wasn’t his man. He did a good job to almost get there. Johnson also let the goal scorer run in behind him on the first goal. I love the guy but he didn’t have a good game.

      • initially I blamed Fabian, but he was pulled to the middle when the attack shifted to the right… he had to follow his “guy”…

all in all, Fabian was not in it… really bad game. Bobby Wood keeps missing point blank chances, I wouldnt pursue him at all for this level of play.

The 1st colombian goal was BS… the offside colombian player did not remain “passive” on the play…. too bad you cant challenge plays like in NFL.

      • yeah, their first goal should’ve been called off, but they also should’ve had a penalty–and jones red-carded–on the handball before. i thought the (admittedly bad) refereeing evened out.

and the second goal was on fabian: he lost his mark. teo made a great run to lose him, and green actually did a good job tracking back and trying to defend, but he’s just not good enough at it.

      • callled off? why? when is it that you switched from watching Baseball and NFL to being a soccer fan? The guy who was on offside didnt even touch the ball and let the guy who scored do so. that’s quick thinking and talent for the game. It’s one of the best goals I’ve seen lately

      • That’s not how the law reads. He impeded Beckerman(Interfered with an opponent) if nothing else.

““interfering with an opponent” means preventing an opponent
from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing
the opponent’s line of vision or movements or making a gesture or
movement which, in the opinion of the referee, deceives or distracts an
        opponent”

        That’s from this document http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/generic/81/42/36/lawsofthegame_2010_11_e.pdf

There is no need to mock Nate, if you cant be civil go troll somewhere else.

      • rellyy?? bro he wasn’t impeding he was just standing there and Beckerman just ran into him what do you want the colombian to do turn invisible so kyle can go through?? that wasn’t intentional and I don’t believe any refereein the world can see all the things at the same time. but even after watching the repeat several times I can say that he didnt obstruct intentionally….just take that goal like a man please

      • agree… the colombian player did obstruct but even worse than that, he playfully took 2 or 3 short steps toward the ball…

even getting outta the way from the ball’s trajectory puts a “passive” player offside.

      • ooohh im not awful I love uuuuuu. did you read what I just wrote about the no obstruction? even Twellman admits how Gutierrez was not obstructing.. dont be offended by the truth the world is not against you. whoever says something stupid will just hear it from me, thats just my nature Im not cursing you or being disrespectful….call me the frank zappa of sbi…that’ll be my new nickname now…call me a troll or awful whatever ..if troll is saying the truth by ridiculing stupid remarks ill proudly be a troll….ok…bye now gotta go

      • oh yes, let’s look to taylor twellman for expert analysis. your arguments keep getting weaker. the offside player impeded, or at the very least, pretended to play the ball (falling under the “distraction” part of the interpretation).

you realize just saying ‘truth’ over and over again doesn’t make you sound smart, right?

  3. I think the USA got a bargain with Colombia….they could’ve lost even worse. Colombia wasnt on all cyinders but it was enough for them to turn around the game and their talented players made the difference, something the US doesn’t have and seems never will….it’s just the truth. The US is just not good enough and athleticism alone wont change anything in that respect… and now with Howard on hiatus Dempsey getting old, the only interesting prsopect is Yedlin. Jermaine Jones (German born) is the other guy on another level for this team. Diskerud, that number 10 looks too big for him, he is awful , Morales, Wood, Rubin, Greene you can already predict they are and will be just mediocre. Sorry but it’s the truth, the US is doomed to continue being the “necessary participants” in World cups and even that could end if the other Concacaf teams like Costa Rica continue to rise. Please Don’t blame Klinsmann or anyone…..Even if Pekerman or Van Gaal took over the reality wouldn’t change. I was happy Colombia won because of the talent they have and because they want to win in style too. The US plays an ugly game and when they win its the typical clutch win and my theory is that they make the game so ugly to watch that it kind of distracts the other team? just watch the goal against colombia, classic confusing play (that was not a penalty, there had been a foul) and then watch the two colmbian goals and see how beautiful and talented the touches were that lead to the goal…..Classic South American soccer

you just sound like a hater.

and on our goal, the colombian player deliberately throws his arm out *above* rubin to deflect the ball. it’s an obvious penalty and yellow card.

      • Just saying the truth man, the truth hurts when people are blind…I dont hate and wasnt raised to hate, but to always speak the truth. Hate is not the word, but I do dislike “hustle soccer” style of playing and I just feel there is no replacement for the Howards, J Jones’s Donovan’s Dempseys’S etc. in the future

      • it’s even worse if you think that the TRUTH is that the US just plays so ugly that it “distracts” the other team (some of whom have been the best players in the world), and hey, then we win!

    • “their talented players made the difference, something the US doesn’t have and seems never will….it’s just the truth.”
Yeah, because nothing says perpetual mediocrity like a culturally diverse population of 330m+ and infinity money. You wishing something won’t keep the inevitable at bay.

“Morales, Wood, Rubin, Greene you can already predict they are and will be just mediocre.”
Troll presents personal hopes as prediction based on comically small data set.

      “classic confusing play”
      This almost meant something.

      • Facts baby facts, just saying truths here,Im totally unbiased I am not Colombian or from the US… Here’s another truth, US will probably always be the best at Basketball and Colombia will suck, the opposite can be said for soccer just saying truths here totally unbiased I am not Colombian or from the US. . it has nothing to do with diversity! Just the facts bro just the truth…. Live with it!!!!

      • “Troll presents personal hopes as prediction based on comically small data set”.

Colin you sound like you are into statistics and data….

1.this is not wall streeet, this is not a bankers forum, this is soccer
        2. Why is it that the word troll comes up as a shield to whenever someone says something the other doesn’t want to hear in the form of a truth? were you brought up in an environment where the sheep follows the herd and whoever speaks his mind is a hater a troll? an outcast or whatever? do you work in a cubicle? do you practice critical thinking? or do you just conform and blindly believe in things..feel free to share your comments

      • Maybe your a little bit right, but there are no absolutes, and be careful using the word “fact,” because you don’t know what will happen in the future.

Regardless, it is ok not to be the best. This was a fun match to watch, as are most featuring high pressure south american teams such as Colombia or Chile.

They play a very modern game, the kind Marcelo Bielsa gave the world and passed onto Guardiola and others. It’s funny though that, to me, the best way to combat it, to relieve the constant pressure on the ball, would be to have an old style ball handler in the midfield. The kind who wants the ball everytime and won’t lose it if he’s surrounded by three angry defenders.

We’re a team of very good role players, among the most athletic. We’ve come close to producing great ball handlers before, if not quite world class. I think that a truely great number 10 could come along someday, if we’re lucky. By then, styles would have changed again, of course… and there are no absolutes.

      • I agree with you about the no 10 kind of player but up to a certain point; You don’t need an “old style” ten player, that doesn’t exist anymore in the modern game, you guys need to have the new style of no 10 ball handler, with the same skills and artistry as the classic 10 but that is athletic and versatile like James R, like Gotze hazard etc. not really a 10 but a ball handler that makes things happen with style and skill and quick and athletic. There is almost no place for the valderramas and Riquelmes in todays game. You are right there are no absolutes in the sports or anything but there are tendencies…..just as the US continues to rise and improve so will the developed countries like Germany Brazil and Argentina, everybody evolves at the same time,….it’s like the seniority rule the ones who have been doing it for longer will evolve to even higher planes. call it whatever you want, seniority, tradition, whatever.

      • That is true, that the rest keep evolving. US basketball, which 10 years ago people thought was regressing, has grown totally unbeatable even as European teams have become very good themselves.

The number 10 is a difficult question today. I love those players you mention, and other similar ones like Lucas or Koke, but are they pressure relievers or just the golden cogs in the finest tuned machines ? They happen to play around many other great players and don’t need to go find the ball all the time. Nor do they play in the center of the field, where life gets a little difficult for the US team, and a better version of Claudio Reyna (or, yeah, I’d still take Valderrama in a second) might simply help get us out our defensive posture.

      • money doesn’t get you that far in this sport at the NT level, just ask the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, China, Russia and England
