The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team conceded a late goal for the second match in a row at the Copa Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins in Chile.
Taking on Brazil’s U-17s in Talca, the U.S. fell 4-3 thanks to an Eronildo stoppage-time goal. The result leaves the U.S. winless heading into its final tournament game against Qatar on Saturday.
Brazil took an early two-goal lead, with both goals coming from midfielder Lincoln. The U.S. cut the lead in half through Haji Wrigh,t but Brazilian forward Leandro hit a long-range strike to put the South Americans back up by two goals in the 73rd minute.
The U.S. kept fighting though and were able to tie the score. Wright scored his second of the match in the 78th minute and Christian Pulisic equalized in the 85th minute. Brazil won the match in stoppage time when Eronildo scored to the delight of his team and staff.
Wright’s goals gave him 17 on the year, the most in the team in international matches. Pulisic now has 14 international goals this year for the U.S. U-17s.
The U.S. will have a chance at revenge next month when they face Brazil in the Nike International Friendlies in Florida.

So the USA’s U-17’s can play with Brazil.
Interesting.
Of course, they can get beat by Canada too, so there’s that. Apparently the world needs to fear the Canucks heading into 2022.
Youth results can be a precursor to future success, or, like a number of African nations, you can show well on those levels and never form a particularly competitive senior team. Even the big nations have can’t miss prospects that never live up to expectation. Only time will tell.
The picture. His arm. Was he attacked by a shark or man-eating anteater or something?
Let’s give Wright and Pulisic a Senior NT call up. The Brazilians call up their younger stars all the time!
Has either even played a professional game yet?
Has Jordan Morris?
touche
Although I would say the extra 4 years Morris has on wright is a big deal.
I don’t know — Wright and Pulisiic seem like the real deal….scorers like the USA has never had. They’re ridiculously young, but look at Green and Yedlin. Maybe they’ll have a shot at 2018. The competition they would face is pretty dim.
Haji seems like the real deal. Anyone know what his current club situation is? My understanding is that he’s left LA Galaxy and is looking to move to Europe. Anything happen recently? What are the rules regarding underage players moving to the continent?
The whispers say that he’s headed to Schalke on his 18th birthday.
He’s listed as a “guest player” for Schalke’s U-17 team.
What is this new-found propensity for giving up late goals the US seems to have found in international soccer at all levels?
I think it’s more of a coincidence between teams and not a real pattern across the program.
No Benedict Arnold Brazil?
Also these should be good highlights. This sounds like a quality loss.
