Goals from Mauricio Pineda and Brooks Lennon gave the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team a memorable win midway through their winter training camp in Marbella, Spain.

The U.S. U-18s defeated Germany U-18s, 2-1, in the first of two friendly matches between the two nations. Pineda, the brother of Indy Eleven midfielder and former Chicago Fire Homegrown signing Victor Pineda, volleyed home a goal in the 19th minute to put the Americans ahead.

In the 76th minute, Lennon gave the U.S. a two-goal lead by smashing home a rebound after a shot by Real Salt Lake-AZ teammate Sebastian Saucedo was saved. Germany’s Prince Osei Owusu scored a penalty kick in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time to cut the deficit in half but the German squad ran out of time to tie the score.

The USA and Germany play each other again on Friday.

Here’s the U.S. U-18 MNT’s starting lineup:

USA: Klinsmann; Duncan, Redding, Pineda, Peleaz; Lindley, Swanson, Yueill; Saucedo, Elney, Mansaray

    • and so people don’t get it twisted, Klinsmann reported played extremely well and made six saves. but there was an incident that led to the German PK that resulted in him getting red due to a second yellow.

    • Shushhhh! You’re not suppose to point out anything negative about Jurgy or his son. The article didn’t mention it, the US Soccer article didn’t mention it, you shouldn’t either.

  1. How can this be? Don’t they know they can’t possibly become the best they can be unless they play in Europe?

JK – time to change the plan…. tell Germany that they must play in the USA if they want be be able to develop

Fact is, we don’t need Europe, our players are doing just fine without them. Too bad these kids will never see the senior team as long as Klinsmann is in charge

  2. The U-17, U-18, and U-20 squads have had some solid results this year. It is encouraging. Now, it is time to make it all count in 2015. Big, big year ahead for the youth teams.

    • Why do people get that sensitive about Klinsmann’s comments? He is right most of the time. Champion’s League is a big deal. No reason we can’t have good American players in Champions League and MLS. We have 350 million people, and more resources tied into sports than any country in the world.

Maybe if MLS spent as much effort into developing local talent as they do collecting franchise fees or pretending they are close to the big leagues or importing Central Americans or making up bunk little allocation rules on the fly, we would have more Americans playing at a higher level here and abroad.

      • MLS is doing very well helping to build soccer in the states, something that was basically non-existent until very recently, and doing so without following the euro model which would not work here for so many flipping reasons; it seems this fact really pisses off the euro conscienti to no end. MLS is investing in infrastructure with the revenues which, again, were not around not that long ago, and now we’re heading into a new generation of US players who will and do benefit from it as we evolve and get better at it. it’s already happening

yes, still a long ways to go but also yes, a long ways has been covered as well. all the youngsters here and in the states owe a big thank you to those who’ve come before them and helped make this happen

    • How in the world do you know it’s not their “A” team at the u-18 level. And how do you know this the USA “A” team. The US is missing top players in this squad like Yomba, Akale, EPB, Carter-Vickers etc…
