Liverpool draws Besiktas, Inter meets Celtic in Europa League draw

EuropaLeague2015Final

By RYAN TOLMICH

The knockout stages of the 2014-15 Europe League are set to feature a series of familiar matchups.

The draw for February’s Round og 32 was completed Monday, headlined by a matchup between struggling Liverpool and Turkish giant Besiktas. The two sides previously met in the 2007-08 Champions League, where the English side handed down an 8-0 thrashing, a competition record. In addition, the tie will see Liverpool take a familiar foe in striker Demba Ba, whose finish for Chelsea all but doomed Liverpool’s title hopes last season.

In a rematch of the 1967 European Cup final, Scotland powerhouses Celtic are set to take on Italy’s Inter Milan. Celtic emerged victorious in that final nearly 40 years ago, although Inter earned revenge by eliminating the Scottish side in the semifinals five years later.

In addition, Tottenham have been drawn into a matchup with Fiorentina, reigning champions Sevilla take on Borussia Monchengladhach and Everton matchup with Switzerland’s Young Boys.

  1. Arsenal got lucky to get by Besicktas in the CL qualifying round and Tottenham struggled v. the Turks. I don’t think many people would consider a surprise the turkish side eliminating Liverpool.

Celtic is poor, but so is Inter, so you never know there.

    Torino-Bilbao should be a good macth-up.

Everton should not underestimate Young Boys, Swiss club football is improving every year.

    Tottenham-Fiorentina is also a toss-up.

I expect Legia to eliminate Ajax, Roma to get by Feyenoord, and Zenit to take care of business v. PSV.
