Tottenham know what must be done to claim the top spot in Group C and avoid the top seeds in the knockout stage.
The Premier League club is set to head to Turkey to take on Besiktas, where a win or draw will ensure Tottenham’s spot atop the group. However, Tottenham will be without the services of forward Emmanuel Adebayor, who has been allowed to return home for a personal issue.
Fellow English club Everton has no such worries today, as the Toffees have already locked up the top spot in Group H. Manager Roberto Martinez is set to use Thursday’s visit from Russia’s Krasnador as a chance to give an opportunity to the club’s younger players, while groupmates Lille and Wolfsburg do battle to determine the group’s second-placed team.
Have a closer look at some of Thursday’s Europa League action below:
BORUSSIA MONCHENGLACBACH, VILLAREAL, FC ZURICH BATTLE IT OUT IN GROUP A
In what is one of the competitions more wide-open groups, Group A is set to go down to the wire Thursday.
Qualification is simplest for Villareal, who need a win at Apollon Limassol to seal a spot in the tournament’s knockout stages. Meanwhile, Monchengladbach and Zurich are set to battle it out in Germany, with the hosts needing just a point to advance.
NAPOLI, INTER PLAY WITH FATES SEALED
Regardless of Thursday’s results, Napoli and Inter Milan have more European games on the horizon.
Both of the Italian sides are set to move on to the knockout stages, with Inter Milan entering Thursday’s meeting with Karabakh having already secured the top spot in the group. Meanwhile, Napoli will emerge on top with a victory over Solvan Bratislava, who is set to finish last in Group A.
LAST YEAR’S CHAMPIONS SEVILLA LOOKING TO AVOID EARLY EXIT
Reigning champions Sevilla aren’t quite home free when it comes to defending their Europa League crown.
Sevilla can secure a spot in the knockout stages with a draw at home against Croatia’s Rijeka, who could advance with a victory. In addition, if Feyenoord, who have locked up a spot in the next round, lose to Standard Liege, Sevilla can swoop in and claim the group’s top spot.
