The Chicago Fire could be making another big-time roster addition early this week.
According to multiple reports in Sweden and Ghana, Helsingborg star David Accam is on his way to the Fire, rejecting offers from Mexico, Germany, and England. Accam is coming off his best season as a professional, scoring 17 goals in 25 games and finishing second in the scoring charts in the Allsvenskan.
The Ghanaian forward has reportedly earned interest from clubs across England including Leicester City, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham, clubs from Germany including SC Freiburg and FC Cologne, and Liga MX side Tigres UANL. Tigres reportedly made an SEK 21 million ($2.78 million) bid for Accam, which was rejected.
If the reports are true, Accam would join Nigerian forward and Designated Player signing Kennedy Igboananike, who played last season for AIK in Sweden.

What do you think of this report? Excited to see the Fire’s front line next season? Do you think the Fire can make a playoff run with Accam on their squad?

Nice. I doubt this rumor is true though. Why would a player like him snub the Premier League for MLS? Certainly the MLS is offering less $$$.
He is a good prospect, would be a coup for MLS and the Fire. Product of the Nike Academy, specifically “The Chance,” you can watch on youtube, actually very interesting.
what’s so great about him? sure hes a scoring success in Sweden? but he has interest from an EPL and MX league team? am i misssing something? and why would he sign with MLS? don’t tell me they are offering him 3 million a year. no more than 1.3 million if u ask me
IT’s FIVE MINUTES LONG and NOT BAD!

NYRB fan here, after watching the following highlights I’m really excited to see a player of David Accams caliber entering the MLS and still only be 24 yrs old. A strong focus in the video is his speed and creativity. Already enough to make a name for yourself in this league. For example: Dane Richards and Obafemi Martins. Although they were opposite the spectrum of each other in terms of talent, both have been able to be very successful in the MLS. I hope he continues to grow with this league as well as get better and become a true #9. Hope the Red Bull follow there example cause we’re in desperate need of some speed and youth.
Breaking news! Fire sign another nobody
this is great news for the fire.
Another big time move? When was the first one ? This certainly is it either.
They key to winning the MLS cup is signing players
From Scandinavian countries said no one ever part II
check out iggy’s highlites. kennedy is a very good player
No mexican dps, what is fire thinking. I guess cubo Torres is next in line.
NYRB fan here who loves this signing for the league as a whole. It’s the next step in “competing” with leagues with history. Going head to head with leagues for players, in and or around their prime, and succeeding. Well done Fire Scouting and MLS Front Office.
This seems like a legit signing. Not an aging star from a “known” club, not a returning american. Just a good young player with a lot of value and interest on the international market. This is a signing for results, not marketing.
+1
We went from losing players to Sweden to not losing players to them, then to getting some of theirs, and now to getting their leading players.
Wait! He’s not Polish!!!
Hard to be excited when the Fire sign someone. History tells me he’ll be out of here within the year. However…I’d love to see this be a sign of positive things to come.
After signing this guy, Iggy, along with Magee coming back from injury and Shipp’s service and Michael Stephens, if we can’t convert ties to three points this season, I’d be very shocked.
I haven’t been able to take the fire seriously since Yallop has been in charge but if they’re really catching my eye now. If they can pull this signing off they’re well on their way to being the dynamic & explosive team Yallop has promised. Exciting stuff! I love that we’re starting see the league grow to the point where MLS clubs can compete on the transfer market.
