Three days after earning the praise of his manager, John Brooks put an exclamation point on a spectacular week by finding the back of the net.
The Hertha Berlin centerback scored the opening goal in his side’s 4-4 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt Wednesday for the U.S. Men’s National Team defender’s first goal since his game-winner against Ghana at this summer’s World Cup. The finish was Brooks’ fourth goal of his club career.
Brook’s finish came via a set piece, as Hertha Berlin midfielder Ronny provided a long-distance free kick into the center of the box. A streaking Brooks finished with his left foot from just outside the six-yard box to open the scoring.
The 21-year-old defender was recently the subject of praise from manager Jos Luhukay, who has been impressed by Brooks’ defensive work in recent outings.
Despite Brooks’ heroics, Hertha Berlin were forced to settle for a draw after conceding a three goal lead, including a 4-2 lead in extra time. With the draw, Hertha Berlin move into 11th place, four points clear of the relegation zone.
Have a look at Brooks’ finish after the jump:

What do you think about Brooks’ recent play? How do you expect him to fare for club and country in 2015?

How do you give up two goals in extra time? That’s awful.
I love Brooksy.
Main reason i dont love jones at cb. It will hurt the development of other cbs coming up thru. We should go forward wth some combination of besler gonzalez and brooks and with guys like ream, orozco and hedges sniffing around thats a solid group. While at cdm we have jones, danny williams and then unprovens like kitchen, trapp and okugo
I get what you’re saying, but I disagree. Players don’t develop with the national team, they develop with their clubs. They’re with their clubs ten months a year, as opposed to a few weeks, tops, with the national team. It’s up to the manager to select the best players, and if Jones is one of our two best CBs in 2018, well…
Now, if you mean “development” in terms of chemistry with the rest of the team, that’s another conversation.
Never doubt “The Berlin Wall!”
good stuff.
…and he scored with his foot, not head. Nice
Great job on the goal. Does any one know if you was responsible on any of the 4 goals the other team scored. Cause as a centerback you don’t want to be on the wrong side of 4 goals
Yeah I was a little worried about that.
The right back was terrible. He was giving tons of space for easy crosses.
The first goal. He could have been positioned better but I think it was runner from midfield who no one tracked. The left back was alone with 3 Frankfurt players… I don’t see how that happens…
Opps: I meant the 2nd goal. Eh whatever.
3rd goal.
Mostly on the other CB. He didn’t try to play the ball at all… but Brooks could have done something if he knew the other guy was just going to stand there.
Last goal: Flick on to back post. I have no idea who was supposed to be marking Meier. Looked like some zonal marking foul up.
Thanks, I guess we can be glad this is happening when he is young and can learn from this.
that klinsi sure knows good talent…when he sees it…
