The New York Cosmos have kicked off 2015 by adding a veteran presence to the midfield.

The Cosmos announced Friday that the club has signed eight-year MLS veteran Adam Moffat, who made 20 appearances for FC Dallas in 2014.

“Adam is a quality midfielder with a tremendously competitive personality and has significant starting experience,” Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese said. “He adds bite and aggression to our midfield and is going to give us a lot of diversity and options in terms of how we can line up.”

Moffat, a member of the 2008 Columbus Crew team that won the MLS Cup, scored 12 goals and provided six assists in 136 MLS appearances. Prior to joining MLS, the 28-year-old played for Ross County and Elgin City in his native Scotland.

“I had some very positive conversations with Gio and the coaching staff,” Moffat said. “It’s clear what their vision is in terms of the Cosmos’ playing style and where the team’s headed. I really wanted to be a part of that and am excited to start a new chapter in my career.”

What do you think of Moffat’s move? How will he fit in with the Cosmos in 2015?

  1. Wow. Stop the presses. The Adam Moffat sweepstakes appears to have produced a “winner”…. I guess we’ll have to find another guy who’s free on Wednesdays after 8pm for my rec league.

    • Sure pal, Moffat is rec league ability, which is why he’s earned a paycheck for 10+ years playing professionally and your ass is getting subbed out the first 5 minutes into the game for some girl in a pony tail and a passable left foot.

      • I’m going to let you in on a secret…. Adam Moffat does not actually play in my rec league. Bozo.

  2. It upsets me greatly that this site is covering this rougue league.

    Only MLS matters.

Look at how unprofessional NASL is. The Cosmos signed ths player without the benefit of a weighted reallocation re-entry discovery waiver draft.

    • After last season in Dallas, I’d say this move is more about getting his game back on track – he was pretty bad here. We didn’t even get one Moffat Rocket to cheer =(

His passing was limp, he was loose with the ball and his defending was below high school players at times, diving in like 12 year olds… At the 200k salary he had, it’s a good thing to see him leaving FCD.

  3. This is an outrage. I’m going to alert my boss Don Garber about NASL clubs stealing MLS players! The NASL menace must be vanquished!

  4. The Cosmos are two or three players away from MLS quality.
I want them to scare MLS teams into taking The Open Cup seriously

Their douchebaggery is an extra incentive

    • With the way MLS and NYCFC lied about the whole Lampard thing (Lampard has never had a contract with MLS), I would say there is plenty of riff raff in the MLS from office.
