Gomez on the mark in Puebla return

Herculez Gomez Puebla 22

By FRANCO PANIZO

Almost five years after netting his last goal for Puebla, Herculez Gomez got himself back on the scoresheet for the club on Friday.

Gomez marked his official Puebla return with a goal, heading in a ball from close range in the Camateros‘ 3-1 defeat to Veracruz. The 32-year-old forward’s goal came in the 78th minute to give him the first tally of his second stint with Puebla, and only after he entered the match at halftime.

Gomez, who did not play in Puebla’s season opener last weekend, last scored for the club on April 18, 2010. That year, he took a share of the Liga MX Clausura scoring title with 10 goals, which served as a major launching pad for his career.

You can see the goal here at the 1:30 mark:

What do you think of Gomez’s goal? Think he is in store for a big Clausura campaign at Puebla? How many times will he score before the end of the season?

  1. Hercules should be playing in Dallas or Houston, he would be a great MLS spokes person for the Latino fan base. Not only there, but Portland would be a perfect fit for him.

    • Yes, Herc should be in MLS and he’s articulate, insightful and a positive locker room influence. One of my favorite rags to riches story!
