Sacha Kljestan bags brace to help lead Anderlecht to cup victory

Sacha Kljestan Anderlecht

Anderlecht might not be so willing to let Sacha Kljestan go if he keeps this up.

Kljestan scored for the second straight Belgian Cup game on Wednesday, bagging a brace that included the winner in a 4-2 triumph over 10-man Zulte-Waregem in the second leg of their quarterfinals series. Anderlecht advanced to the next round on a 7-2 aggregate scoreline, and Kljestan was the author of three of those goals after netting an insurance goal in the opening leg back on Dec. 17.

The veteran midfielder opened the scoring in the 25th minute of Anderlecht’s home game on Wednesday, and added what was eventually the decisive tally a minute before halftime. Both goals came before Zulte-Waregem’s Formose Mendy was sent off with a straight red card.

Kljestan, 29, now has three goals in the tournament and four across all competitions this season, but questions remain as to if he will stick with the club for the second half of the Pro League campaign. Kljestan has been reportedly drawing interest from MLS clubs during this transfer window, with the New York Red Bulls and LA Galaxy among the teams willing to bring him on board.

How impressed are you by Kljestan’s latest goal-scoring performance? Think Anderlecht will hang on to him until the summer? Which MLS club do you see as the best fit for him?
