Soccer Wednesday: Your Running Commentary

Wednesday presents another day of cup action, highlighted by a match between two of Spain’s powerhouses.

Atletico Madrid is set to kick off the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinals against the very same team that knocked them out of last year’s competition: Barcelona. Although Atleti nicked Barcelona to claim the league crown last season, Barca took it to Atleti when the two collided in the Copa del Rey with a 5-0 beating over two legs before eventually falling to Real Madrid in the final.

The match between the two teams will be the second in 10 days, as Barcelona took down Atleti, 3-1, behind goals from the attacking triumvirate of Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

In addition, Wednesday’s action features a Copa Italia match between Inter Milan and Sampdoria, an AFCON meeting between Congo and Gabon, a trio of Copa MX contests, and plenty of U-20 action.

If you will be watching today’s action, feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

  1. (From SkySports) “BREAKING NEWS: Sheffield United still on their coach stuck in traffic. The kick-off at White Hart Lane has been put back 15 minutes to 8pm.”

Why do I find this so hilarious?

  2. No Yedlin in the lineup/bench for Spurs today, Darnit, was hoping to see him get a chance at some first-team action, but at the same time slow and steady wins the race.
