Despite reported interest from teams in the Bundesliga, English Premier League and MLS, Alejandro Bedoya appears to be set to remain with France’s FC Nantes.
Bedoya’s agent, Lyle Yorks, said via Twitter that that the U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder has signed a contract extension with Nantes that will keep him with the club through the 2018-19 season.
Bedoya’s prior contract expired in June 2016, but Nantes has clearly seen value in Bedoya. Bedoya has made 18 league appearances this season. Nantes have not yet commented on the report.
Nantes are currently in the midst of a transfer ban following the illegal signing of forward Ismael Bangoura in 2012. The ban was originally handed down by FIFA in March 2014 and is set to be lifted to start off the 2015 summer window.
Bedoya is currently in his second season with Nantes after the midfielder previously featured at Sweden’s Örebro SK, Scotland’s Rangers and Sweden’s Helsingborgs IF. On the international level, Bedoya has made 37 appearances for the USMNT and scored two goals.

What do you think of this development? Are you surprised to see Bedoya stay with Nantes? Do you see him moving up the French league ladder in the next calendar year?

good for him. no reason to move. very happy to see this.
As I think Grantland mentioned, an argument could be made that Bedoya is the best US player right now. If every US player had the same work ethic as he does we would be a much better team.
He’s a nice player and certainly works hard on both sides of the ball. However I’m not sure he’s had enough defining moments of quality in a US shirt, to really say he’s the best player at the moment.
I THINK THIS IS A TERRIBLE TERRIBLE MOVE ONLY BECAUSE EVERYONE SEEMS TO AGREE AND THE INTERNET CAN’T LET EVERYONE AGREE.
Commitment, hard work, and modesty. I think those qualities are very important to succeed in Europe, and he obviously has them. In France no less, where culture shock can be really strong, so bravo Alejandro.
Thank god for Bedoya! Keep making us proud of our Yanks In Europe man. Keep it up!
Very nice. I fully support this.
Good. Continues to be a good spot for him.
