Atletico Madrid is interested in upgrading its midfield and Santi Cazorla may be part of the plan.

Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that the La Liga champions have reached out to the Arsenal midfielder’s representatives about a potential summer move.

The 30-year-old attacking midfielder has been a key component of Arsenal’s squad this season, notching seven goals in 35 appearances.  Cazorla currently has 18 months remaining on his contract with the London club.

Here are some news and notes to get you through the day:

LFP DENOUNCES CHANTS AIMED AT CHRISTIANO RONALDO

Over the weekend, a group of Levante fans chanted that Christiano Ronaldo “is a drunk,” likely in reference to the Real Madrid star’s recent birthday celebrations.

Now the Liga de Futbol Profesional (LFP) has submitted a formal complaint and publicly denounced the chants.

According to the LFP, the chants were orchestrated by about 200 Levante supporters known as the Almogavers during the second half. But LFP also made note of the fact that the remainder of the crowd did not participate and behaved “completely correct during the whole game.”

DORTMUND READY TO OPEN CONTRACT TALKS WITH GUNDOGAN

Ilkay Gundogan’s contract with Borussia Dortmund is set to expire in the summer of 2016, but the club would like to extend his stay.

“[Sporting director] Michael Zorc will certainly look into a potential renewal for Gundogan in the next few weeks,” Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Sport Bild.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been linked with potential moves to Manchester United, Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid in the past.

Talk of extending Gundogan’s contract comes just days after Borussia Dortmund announced that Marco Reus opted to re-sign through 2019.

Since joining Dortmund in 2011, Gundogan has made 96 appearances and tallied 11 goals.

ROBIN VAN PERSIE SET TO RETURN FOR MANCHESTER UNITED

Robin van Persie will be back at full fitness for Manchester United’s match against Swansea on Saturday.

The Dutch striker missed the club’s recent trip to Preston in the FA Cup due to a minor injury, but Louis van Gaal has said that van Persie will be fit come this weekend. However, the manager did not guarantee his selection.

Van Persie, who has scored nine goals so far this season, netted twice in Manchester United’s trip to the Liberty Stadium last year.

INTERIM COACH MARSHALL LEAVES ASTON VILLA

Now that Tim Sherwood has taken over at Aston Villa, caretaker Scott Marshall has left the club.

After Paul Lambert was sacked last week, Marshall was given temporary control of the first team at Villa. But with Sherwood quickly being appointed as the new manager, Marshall’s stint at the top lasted just two days.

“I’d like to thank Scott for his efforts during his time at the football club and especially under difficult circumstances at the weekend when he took the team for Sunday’s FA Cup victory over Leicester City,” Aston Villa chief executive Tom Fox said in a statement. “We wish him all the best in the future.”

What do you think of Atletico Madrid’s interest in Cazorla? What do you make of the chants aimed at Ronaldo? Should Gundogan stay with Borussia Dortmund?
