It may not have been the exact homecoming that Robbie Keane envisioned, but Los Angeles Galaxy’s friendly in Ireland was successful.

The Galaxy beat Shamrock 1-0 in early action on Saturday. Keane was given a standing ovation when he exited the match in stoppage time.

His influence on the game perhaps fell short of what was desired, though fans didn’t mind. Tallaght Stadium, located a short distance from where Keane grew up, was packed with fans to see the Republic of Ireland captain and the champions of MLS.

Just before halftime, the Galaxy took the lead. Finnish trialist Mika Vayrynen’s 44th minute strike was deflected before sailing into the net to provide the only separation LA needed.

The Galaxy return stateside for their next preseason game against San Jose Earthquakes in a soft opening of the new Avaya Stadium on Feb. 28.

Here is a look at some more MLS Preseason action:

TORONTO FC EDGES HB KOGE

Jonathan Osorio provide the decisive goal in Toronto FC’s 1-0 win against Danish side HB Koge.

The 22-year-old Canadian linked up with Jozy Altidore in the 52nd minute to break the deadlock in a tightly contested IMG Suncoast Pro Classic game in Bradenton, Florida.

Altidore flicked a ball up and over the Koge defense where Osorio brought it down. He patiently side stepped a couple of defenders before putting the ball into the far right corner.

TFC finish group play in the Suncoast Classic on Wednesday against New York Red Bulls in a 7:30 p.m. (ET) kickoff.

LATE FCD EFFORT SEALS WIN AGAINST DC UNITED

FC Dallas exacted revenge against D.C. United in a 3-1 win Friday night.

D.C. previously defeated FCD in the ATX Pro Challenge final in Austin. The trio of Ryan Hollingshead, Fabian Castillo and Tesho Akindele proved too much to handle this time around in D.C.’s final preseason match.

Hollingshead scored his fourth goal of the preseason in the 27th minute to give FCD the lead. Substitute Jairo Arrieta equalized for D.C. in the 62nd minute with a near-post finish.

The winner came from a tidy back-heel pass from Akindele from the top of the area that played in Castillo. The Colombian split two defenders, rounded a third and goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra before applying the finish.

Akindele added the insurance goal through and 88th-minute penalty.

FCD plays its final preseason match at home against San Antonio Scorpions next Saturday.

Comments

    • Albeit they have been substantially better each of the past 3 seasons, I wouldn’t say they’re “becoming the new MLS Super Club.” 15Ws should be a team goal, rather than a given.

      • If you watch the video, receives chip over backline with one touch, two fakes as ball rolls, shot.

Warren Crevalle, a former Houston hustler I liked, had a couple nice tackles to turn the ball around on the play leading to the goal.

Koge did look like they were more dominant early.
