It looks like 30 days was long enough.
Coach Jill Ellis is expected to name goalkeeper Hope Solo to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster for the upcoming Algarve Cup, declining to extend Solo’s 30-day suspension from the squad, according to ESPN.
Solo will officially be reinstated on Saturday, which will mark 30 days from when Solo had been suspended after her husband was arrested for driving a U.S. Soccer van while drunk. That incident came just days after a Seattle-area judge dismissed assault charges against her.
The USWNT is expected to leave for Portugal on Sunday, where they will face Norway, Switzerland and Iceland in Algarve Cup group play.
U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati previously said Solo could be suspended beyond the initial 30 days if she did not meet certain conditions, which he declined to disclose.
“Sure,” Gulati said last month when asked if Solo could miss this summer’s World Cup. “As I’ve said and as Jill has said, we’ve asked her to do a number of things and she’s going to have to do a number of those things and make progress in those areas.”
Solo’s husband, former NFL tight end Jerramy Stevens, was pulled over by police and charged with DUI on Jan. 19 while driving a U.S. Soccer van outside Los Angeles, where Solo was in residency with the USWNT.
A week earlier, a judge threw out a fourth-degree assault case against Solo for an alleged fight with her nephew and sister.
Since Solo’s suspension, No. 2 goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris has filled in to earn her fifth and sixth national team caps, falling 2-0 to France earlier this month and beating England 1-0 five days later.

Grow up Hope. Look at how many 8 to 12 year old girls are in the crowd next time you’re lucky enough to play.
My daughter is a GK and she would love to have Solo’s talent and works hard at trying to develop it but she isn’t using Hope (or any of the other male or female athletes)as a role model. Sir Charles said it best, “I am not a role model.” Didn’t Tom Brady father a child out of wedlock? didn’t hurt his career did it?
They’re a match made in heaven
Hopefully she leaves her husband at the trailer park from now on. I hope they get a restraining order to keep her thug away from the USSF vans.
What a joke. I hope this psycho leaks goals in the WC
I am going to take the other side of this. Many are piling on her miseries, and she earned it.
But how many of us haven’t done something dumb when we were young ? Seriously.
I was a saint and even I did dumb things.
So now she has one dumb act, after the judge threw out her other high profile thing. (Maybe a marrying the wrong guy too) Granted it was really dumb, ask other Nat team members about riding with drunk drivers, but we will see how it goes going forward.
I learned, we all probably did. Will she ?
She’s 33.
Haha.
LOL
Come on, everybody knows 30’s are the new 20’s!
I still don’t get why she was cut loose. I mean what control does she have over her husband driving drunk? She’s not god, she isn’t in charge of him, he’s a grown man. Don’t see how it could possibly be her fault what another person does.
He was driving the USWNT van at the time. They were out drinking and she handed the keys to him.
She was also cited by the arresting officer as being combative and resistant to the police at the time of her husband’s arrest.
Then why wasn’t she arrested? Resisting arrest is probably the most over charged, falsely charged crime in the US.
its actually probably the most under charged crime in the US.
Hardly. I wonder if there has been a study on this. If you read reports of arrests/crimes in papers regularly, you will find that resisting arrest is included many times and then dropped by the D.A.
I haven’t seen anyone claim that she had the keys and handed them to him. Also would you be able to keep the keys away from him? He’d destroy you.
She was in the car. She had some control over whether he drove and whether she would ride in the car with him.
I’m sure you stand tall against a lot of former NFL players.
Yea, I’m sure he would have drunkenly misappropriated a US Soccer van independently even without Hope hanging off him.
Having the van in the first place was not the reason for the suspension muppet.
If you are a really good player, it solves a lot of your problems – just like in men’s sports.
if she is supposed to be a role model for all the young girls in America, we are in real trouble
Ya, who wouldn’t want their little girl to grow up to be a World Cup keeper for the U.S. I’m sure her parents are SO disappointed in her.
She is a drug using, alcoholic pile of trash who is now married to another waste of space and serial rapist Jeremy Stevens…
Hope is just lucky she is a good goalkeeper…
Well you can’t really luck into being one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
She probably did a little bit of work to get where she is.
Are you her physician? Drug using alcoholic. How so? Considering the failed test was for prescribed drugs for a health issue? really. If you have a prescription or take over the counter medication you too are a drug user you idiot. She has no convictions for drugs or alcohol muppet.
Do you really think being a keeper is luck? I think its hours and hours of practicing skills and training for quicknes strength and agility and flexibility. It is hardly luck. Try it sometime, it isn’t easy being even an average keeper much less the best female keeper in the world
Nice try fifawitz. She’s an embarrassment, and most normal parents are disappointed if their children turn out being train wrecks.
What’s really sad is those parents who are so inadequate to he parents that their children have to have “role models” that’s what’s sad. She’s a great goalkeeper but it’s obvious the coaches have not given other keepers enough chances to play. She got away with that one. She should have been fined a large sum and be out for longer. If anyone would get caught the same way, you would be fired.
Yeah, because men’s sports are filled only with wonderful role models. I think I see a double standard here. While she is no choir girl, her latest transgressions involve being a passenger and having a case thrown out, which makes her innocent. I read a long article in my local paper that was very anti-Solo and most everything he cited were things her husband did before they got married. Her other “transgressions” include criticizing the coach for playing Scurry against Brazil (she was right), criticizing Brandi Chastain for trashing Rachel Buehler, one of the defenders in the back line supporting Solo, and being a victim in a domestic dispute. Her behavior is somewhat like the stereotype of trailer trash, but she hasn’t been convicted of breaking any laws or even doing anything immoral. She has made a questionable pick for a husband (something millions of women have done), but when you consider her behavior against that of many men players, there is really nothing there.
