  1. Very happy to see several instances of good passing sequences, short and especially quick. Doing this against a CONCACAF team is a start, doing it against European competition will be the next step.

  2. Quite an impressive performance by USA, I must say! But more than the win, it’s nice to see that the team didn’t squander their lead in the second half like they’ve did in previous friendlies. Plus, it’s exciting to see Gyasi Zardes and other US’ strikers wreaking havoc on the opposing team’s defenses!

Things certainly are looking up for USMNT.

    • There is still a lot of work to be done, but there is enough talent available that we should be able to hold onto the Gold Cup this summer if we play up to our potential.

  3. For, Jozy Altidore always looks his most potent when he had a speedy counterpart a la Charlie Davies stretching the opposition’s back line… It would be very interesting to see if Gardes could provide that dimension to the US attack against top tier teams.

    • With Clint, Jozy & Agudelo now back in MLS, and with Zardes showing better than Wondo in the past 2 games; then add in the European contingent of Johannsson, Rubin, Boyd, Green, Gyau, and even Wook & Wooten you’ve to to believe that Wondo’s inclusion going forward will be few and far between.

      • Yes, except… I also believed that in the past. I have no idea why he still gets caps. The best he’s looked was against Belize, and I’m pretty convinced that team was trying to give away goals – defenders falling down, etc. Wondo’s header for score in that game was the most compelling reason. Two center defenders, and Wondo in between at the penalty spot, and a cross played in to him from behind. Neither defender closed space, though one of the two moved back in pace with Wondo to keep him onsides. There’s is no way a defender, at any competitive level and any age from U-16 on, does that unless he’s trying to give the attacker space to play the ball. That’s the way designated ‘soft defenders’ play during attacking drills at practice.

    • I don’t watch nearly as many EPL games as I used to. Not only Dempsey, but guys like Altidore and even Lichaj when he was with Aston Villa. With Howard hurt, we only have Cameron and Guzan right now. I am looking forward to Fox getting the Bundesliga since Gol TV is an extra cost to me with my sports package while Fox isn’t. Germany is where most US internationals are now.

      • The only thing EPL has going for it is common language. Other than that, I prefer games from Spain, Germany or Italy. I care about EPL about as much as the French Ligue 1, which is to say I’ll follow headlines and have a general idea of how the perreniel powers are doing, but not much interest beyond that.

  4. Whoa Zardes looking like a starter now, I like it! Didn’t see the game, did Zardes look like hr would hold up well against better competition?

    • He has the physical tools and everyone is very high on him, including me. But you never know until you see him play in that situation. Hopefully he will get a run out when the US plays in Europe during the Spring friendlies.

      • One thing (among many) I like about Zardes is I’ve never heard of him having a bad game. I’m sure he has, but from college on I’ve never heard of one. And now he has carried that forward to this level; USMNT senior friendlies. Doesn’t mean it will continue and doesn’t mean he will also look good in USMNT competitive games. But who wants to bet against him?

      • He looked like a MOM, and he looked good against Chile when he came on. Moves well, passes well. Looks like we got a player. Only question is where do you play him.

      • i seriously hope you’re not referring to Wondo, and if you are i sincerely hope you’re being sarcastic…
