No one from the Americans Abroad contingent found the back of the net this weekend, but two players did set up goals in different and impressive ways.
Alfredo Morales and Aron Johannsson each delivered assists for their clubs, with Morales providing a game-winning helper in his match and Johannsson feeding a teammate seconds into their game. Morales assisted on Ingolstadt’s lone goal in a 1-0 triumph over Heidenheimer on Friday, and the victory moved the 2. Bundesliga leaders six points clear of second place. Johannsson, meanwhile, teed up AZ Alkmaar forward Steven Berghuis with a scrumptious low cross in the first minute of what was a largely forgettable 5-2 defeat to SC Heerenveen.
Another U.S. Men’s National Team player to grab headlines was DeAndre Yedlin, who made his highly-anticipated Tottenham debut in a 1-0 loss to Brad Guzan and Aston Villa on Saturday. Yedlin played in his first match at the club level since Nov. 30 of last year, subbing into the match vs. the Villans in the 79th minute. The 21-year-old Yedlin was unable to make much of an impact during his brief stint on the field, but completed all five of his passes and did not make any mistakes.
There were other positive developments across Europe. Bobby Wood dressed for FC Erzgebirge Aue for the first time since suffering a knee injury in February, Jonathan Spector made his Birmingham City return after dealing with a minor knock in recent weeks, and Rubio Rubin started and went the distance for FC Utrecht in a 2-0 loss to ADO Den Haag.
It was not all good news, however. Alejandro Guido made a substitute appearance for Club Tijuana on Saturday, but was sent off after picking up two cautions during his 15 minutes on the field. The ejection punctuated a poor day for Xolos, who suffered a 2-1 loss to Queretaro and fell out of first place in Liga MX.

What do you think of these performances? More impressed by Morales’ game-winning assist or Johannsson’s first-minute helper? How many more games do you see Yedlin playing in before the season ends?
Share your thoughts below.
Any word on Danny Cruz at Bodo/Glimt?
Anyone know whatup with
Onyewu? Have t seen him on the bench in weeks?
Solid weekend for the healthy YA
And word on returns for Boyd, Gatt or Torres? Also Williams not in the 18?
In Norway, you can add Rhett Bernstein to the list. He is on Mjondalen. Came on as a sub vs Stromsgodset this weekend.
You should probably include Jerome Kiesewetter in the list. He recently made his Bundesliga debut with Stuttgart and was called into the US U23 camp, so he’s certainly a YA. Duane Holmes with Huddersfield Town in the Championship also deserves a mention.
Yedlin did make a mistake. He was horribly out of position on a long ball and then beaten to the middle then shoved a guy kind of that could have been a penalty.
yeah not his best moment. the rest was serviceable.
most of his passes were right back to fazio. one pass was wayward but ended up on kanes foot because it went past his original target and was so wayward it wasnt near anyone else.
he did ok. long way to go. short minutes. etc….
Yes we know – all American players are horrible etc.
As for his being out of position, he was in the position he was put in for. Being down 1-0 with 10 minutes to play, his role was obviously to go forward to provide service to attackers. Are you so ignorant you are unaware of this tactic, or do you just like to provide gratuitous attacks on others?
Well, at least most of the uninjured players went 90 minutes. Even Bornstein who has done that for like 4 games in a row.
