April ended in kind ways for a trio of Americans playing abroad.
Fabian Johnson was among that group, helping Borussia Moenchengladbach stay on course for a UEFA Champions League spot. Johnson set up a clutch winner for the club, feeding teammate Max Kruse in the 90th minute to lift Moenchengladbach to a 1-0 victory. With four games remaining in the Bundesliga campaign, Moenchengladbach sits in third place and holds the final guaranteed Champions League spot.
While Johnson set up a late goal in a win, Alejandro Bedoya scored one to save his side from defeat. Bedoya found an 88th-minute equalizer for FC Nantes, earning the club a valuable road point in a 1-1 draw with Toulouse. The goal was Bedoya’s third this season, and second through four games this month.
Aron Johannsson was the other player to tally this weekend, though his strike did not come with as much drama Johannsson netted for the sixth time in the Eredivisie campaign by giving AZ Alkmaar a first-half insurance goal in their 2-0 win vs. FC Twente. The goal was Johannsson’s first at the club level since March 8, and helped AZ stay within range of the Netherlands’ lone assured UEFA Europa League spot.

What do you think of these performances? Going forward, should Johnson be playing more in the midfield with the U.S. Men’s National Team? Impressed with the month Bedoya had at Nantes?
Share your thoughts below.
No mention of that horrible goal that Brad Guzan gifted Man City?
Some things are better left undiscussed.
Guzan’s form hasn’t been the greatest….kinda hoping Howard decides to come back to the USMNT this summer, TBH.
Adu even had an assist lol
Good to see Yedlin making the bench – I though they would slow roll him for the rest of the year.
I’d say they are slow rolling him. One 11 minute appearance isn’t exactly rushing things. Hopefully they sell Walker this summer.
Bornstein starts playing for Quertaro and they go on a tear. He doesn’t dress this weekend and they lose 3-1. Coincidence?
Yes
Aron Johannsson – scores
Alejandro Bedoya – scores
Freddy Adu plays 90 mins and since his arrival KuPS has its 3 straight win (I know I know PKKU is a third division team but its a win)
Altidore scored (and 2 good goals!!!)
……awesome way to start the week
what do you mean third division team..? they’re in the top flight of finland (not that that is very impressive but top flight nonetheless)
PKKU is in the Kakkonen (3rd Division)……KuPS is in the Veikkausliiga (1st Division). I think it was a Cup match and not a league game
ahh. miss read your comment. carry on.
Definitely awesome, thought to be nit picky, Altidore’s 2nd goal needed a lucky deflection off his shin to go in. The run up was strong though. Good to see Toronto get a result, even if it’s against the team I support.
Altidore scored (and 2 good goals!!!)
Americans Abroad…?
Canada its a whole other country
Match took place in Orlando.
Boom
Yes but Florida is pretty much another planet. Have you seen the sh!t that goes on there?
it’s just unheard of…..my bad Old School, next time I’ll keep my excitement to myself and keep the facts organized LOL
I’m giving you a hard time.
Jozy scoring is noteworthy (I also made a post regarding it in the article about his brace). I’m excited for him, too.
Maybe you could say that Altidore is an Americans Abroad emeritus.
Altidore has the quality to still play in Europe, if it’s the right league (and style of play). I wouldn’t refer to him as that, because I still believe he goes back at some point.
