With the Premier League season set to conclude on May 24, Manchester City is in for a busy period of North American travels.
The Houston Dynamo announced Thursday that Man City will travel to Houston to take on the Dynamo in a friendly on May 28 at BBVA Compass Stadium. The frieldny comes just four days after the conclusion of the Premier League season and one day after the reigning Premier League champions face off with Toronto FC in a friendly at BMO Field.
“Manchester City will come to Houston with one of the best squads in world soccer,” Dynamo head coach Owen Coyle said. “They have a superb coach in Manuel Pellegrini and an outstanding crop of world class players, including David Silva, Vincent Kompany, Yaya Touré, Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Gael Clichy, Joe Hart and Pablo Zabaleta.
“It is a great opportunity for our fans to see all the elite players up close and a great moment for the Houston Dynamo.”
The meeting will be a part of the Dynamo Charities Cup, with Man City being the seventh different international side to face the Dynamo. Previous opponents include Aston Villa, Stoke City, Valencia, Bolton Wanderers, Club Deportivo Aguila and CF Monterrey.
“We are extremely excited to have the Dynamo playing Manchester City and to be hosting this historic match at BBVA Compass Stadium,” said Dynamo president Chris Canetti. “We have dreamed of having a home match versus a globally-relevant club like Manchester City, and now we can finally say it’s going to happen.
“This is a special opportunity for the Dynamo, our fans, our sponsors, and the City of Houston.”
What do you think of the friendly? What do you expect from Manchester City?

Maybe they’ll finally sell out that beautiful stadium
Manchester City 5 – 0 Houston Dynamo
wages do not cover spell check it seems
I’m excited to play against New York City FC’s first team. Should be more exciting then watching their new 2nd team struggle. Will we get to be the first to watch Frank Lampard finally play on American soil? I’m going to say doubtful.
I think the Dynamo name is fine. Rebranding can work or it can fail. I mean F*C* Dallas as a rebrand works for me. It’s all in the name. So excited that we get three derby games again!
LOL at Coyle naming Joe Hart as “World Class.”
The name is set already. Enjoy it, or hate it, but there’s very little a fan, or hater can do to change it after 10 awesome seasons.
It’s good to see a big club coming for our charity match.
Homework brother. The team was originally gonna be named in honor of that specific date that you may be able to guess but many Spanish speakers protested.
The name Houston dynamo is so mls 1.0 and cheesy.
A huge city with so many soccer fans and Latino-hispanic presence and they go with dynamo.
Inter Houston would have been perfect. Its never too late.
This is America, we can have our own cultural identity. We don’t have to and shouldn’t copy everything from Europe. I’m tired of the FC’s and the United’s and real’s. I’m not saying that Dynamo is a great name but at least keep it american.
inter? lol…
I don’t get Inter
what does that even mean?
