Just four weeks into the NASL season, the Tampa Bay Rowdies and San Antonio Scorpions have shaken up their rosters via trade.

The Rowdies acquired midfielder Richard Menjivar from the Scorpions on Wednesday in exchange for defender Brad Rusin.

Menjivar joins the Rowdies after spending 2014 with the Scorpions, making 19 starts en route to an NASL Championship. The midfielder, who was named an NASL Best XI selection in 2013 as a member of the Atlanta Silverbacks, has made 20 appearances for the El Salvador national team, most recently in friendlies against Argentina and Guatemala in March.

“Richie Menjivar is an experienced international player who brings a tremendous background in the game to our roster,” Rowdies Head Coach Thomas Rongen said. “He’s a current member of the El Salvador national team and will help us achieve our goals this season. He’s an outstanding player to have on our team.”

Rusin, meanwhile, joins the Scorpions after previously featuring for Orlando City in the USL and the Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS. Rusin made 16 starts and made 19 appearances for the Whitecaps in 2013 after previously plying his trade in Denmark with HB Koge.

“Brad is an experienced, physical center back who brings balance to our squad,” said Scorpions head coach Alen Marcina. “He has previously spent time playing in Europe, with the Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS, and has championship experience in both the NASL and USL.

“Many factors were taken into account when making this move, including the availability of our squad during the Gold Cup this summer, and it was certainly not an easy decision as Richie was a big part of our team’s success last season. But to acquire a quality player and properly reinforce our defense, this was a necessary adjustment that addresses an area of need and improves the squad as a complete unit. We wish Richie all the best, and we’re delighted to welcome Brad to San Antonio.”

COSMOS B ADDS FOUR PLAYERS

Days away from the team’s debut in the NPSL, the New York Cosmos have added four new faces to the clubs reserve team.

The Cosmos announced Wednesday that midfielders, Carl-Oscar Andersson and Fernando Marqués, forward Miguel Herlein along and defender Dani Evuy will join the newly formed Cosmos B.

Andersson joins after previously featuring in the Swedish first division with Falkenbergs FF, while Marques has previously been a member of Racing Santander, Atletico Madrid, Espanyol and Parma.

Herlein joins the Cosmos after playing for FC Goa of the Indian Super League. Finally, Evuy most recently featured in Estonia and is a member of the Equatorial Guinea national team.

Cosmos B are set to take on the Brooklyn Italians on May 2.

RAILHAWKS SIGN DELL

Formerly of the Carolina RailHawks U-23 team, Jamie Dell can now call himself a member of the senior squad.

The RailHawks announced Wednesday that the club has signed 22-year-old Dell, who previously featured for the University of North Carolina at Wilmington last year.

“We are thrilled to have Jamie. He is a local player with strong ties to the community,” said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. “He is a former RailHawks U-23 player with a bright future who will have the opportunity to develop as a player and grow with the team. I look forward to seeing him on the field.”

CEUS NAMED GOALKEEPER COACH AT EMORY UNIVERSITY

Steward Ceus is set to pass on his goalkeeping knowledge to some members of the next generation.

Emory University announced Wednesday that the Atlanta Silverbacks starter will join their team as goalkeeping coach. Ceus, who has made seven appearances for the Haitian national team, most recently appeared against the New York Cosmos and was named to the NASL Team of the Week.

“We are very excited to have Steward join our coaching staff for the fall of 2015,” said  head coach Sonny Travis.  “He brings a wealth of experience as an accomplished goalkeeper playing at the professional level and with the Haiti National Team.  A goalkeeper with this background will be instantly respected by our four returning goalkeepers.

“Also, he has had experience coaching goalkeepers at various clubs in New York and for the Colorado Fusion.  I am confident he will challenge and develop each of our goalkeepers here at Emory.”
