  1. It always feels good to beat MEX but this was our B/A squad against their C team, more resembling the quality of an El Salvador team. So, let’s clear the hubris and get ready for a very tough Gold Cup.

    • Makes you wonder about the FMF, they don’t seem to have any interest in these friendlies anymore. Another example was the u23 game, we brought in some of our Euros, they bring in a c squad filled with 2nd div players, what gives?

      • From what I read and what my friend (who follows Mexican soccer), most of the guys on the Mexican are going to be in the U23 team next year (at least in contention). Naturally, they view it as experimental/test candidates (which is what friendlies are meant for).

      • Good for them. You know how many players on the current USMNT roster/Europe and potential dual nationals who could qualify for the U-23 roster?

        Brooks, Yedlin, Rubin, Green
        Gedieon Zelalam
Ashton Gotz, Jeremy Toljan, Devante Parker and it would be game over when we confirm Robert Kenedy Nunes was born in Miami

    • Eh, we did have a amateur as a starter. That has to balance the “A” part of our team a bit.

I mean both goal scorers are noooo where near starting. D- team strike force?

      • I think Agudelo is closer than you think. Everyone is compared with Jozy, but really, Juan is the most likely to lock down the forward position for the next WC round. Perhaps you haven’t seen the Revolution play this year – I came to really like their play last year, so I watch them now – Juan is dangerous, and he’s getting lots of opportunities. My prediction is that he will sink lots of goals this year in the MLS.

      • He had a poor game Sunday against the woeful Union and had to be subbed out. OTOH, Teal Bumbury came in with the Revs trailing 1-0, and he (and Diego Fagundez) made the difference as New England rallied for a 2-1 win. Generally, I think he has the skill set necessary to be a top flight international player, epitomized by his goal against Mexico, but he was invisible on Sunday.

    • The defending on the Agudelo goal was pretty much non-existent. He was allowed to cut inside and get off his shot with not one defender making a move to close him down.

      • That tends to happen when the defender marking you slips on the crap field. Not giving he Mexican team an out since both teams had to play on the crap field….just seemed that the US players had better balance on the night and didn’t slip as often as the Mex players.
I would hazard that both squads were basically “B” ranked squads. Each team had a couple “A” players, had a few mid level (pool player) experienced guys, and a handful of newbies.
When both teams line up their “A” Squads this summer it’s going to be fun to watch.
