Soccer Wednesday: Your Running Commentary

Two of Europe’s glamor clubs go head-to-head in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal stage to highlight Wednesday’s action.

Paris Saint-Germain hosts Barcelona in the first leg at the Parc des Princes. The Group F opponents — who each secured a win at home against one another in the group stage — meet in the knock-out round just like they did in 2013, when Barcelona triumphed on away goals.

Bayern Munich faces a fired-up Porto at the Estadio do Dragao. The German champions will be without Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery when they face a Porto side unbeaten in Europe and looking for its first Champions League semifinal appearance since 2004.

Elsewhere in Europe, Lyon can reclaim sole possession of first place in Ligue 1 with a good result against Bastia. Parma heads to Genoa in Serie A action.

In Copa Libertadores play, Tigres and Juan Aurich face off as the top two teams in Group 6. Another Liga MX club, Atlas, attempts to climb off the bottom of Group 1 against Brazil’s Atletico Mineiro.

If you will be watching any of today’s action, feel free to leave your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

  1. Much more compact play in both halves and all thirds of the field from the USMNT against Mexico: check. Numbers in the box: check. This is a identity and foundation to build on. Thank you coaches and especially the players.

  2. Terrible. Hate the diamond formation. Hamid or Yarbrough should be in goal. Morris? Hope it all works out, but don’t like the looks of it.

  3. Despite being in a losing effort. Eric Lichaj played extremely well for Nottingham Forest. Why is this guy not getting a look from Klinsmann??????

    • The only conclusion I can come to is that he must not offer enough in the offense half in Klinsmanns’ view.

      • My only conclusion is JK doesn’t like him as much as he likes Green, Yedlin, Rimando, Ibarra, Wondo and Becky.
