A tough start to the season for the Colorado Rapids just got a bit worse for Pablo Mastroeni and crew, as the club announced on Tuesday that midfielder Marcelo Sarvas underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and will miss the next four to six weeks.
“He’s been dealing with a swollen knee with all kinds of different elements in that knee since the game in Philly,” Mastroeni told the Denver Post, referencing the Rapids’ season opener back on March 7.
The Rapids are set to play on the road against the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, but Sarvas would have missed the game anyways, as he is currently serving a two-game ban for stomping on Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey two weekends ago.
Here are a few other notes from around the league:
SPORTING KC UNVEIL NEW THIRD KIT
Sporting KC will have a new look in this weekend’s match with the Chicago Fire.
The club revealed a brand new third kit on Wednesday that is set to debut in Sunday’s matchup at Sporting Park. Featuring an argyle pattern, the kit uses an all white and metallic color-way featuring white socks and shorts.
“With the success of our previous third kit, we wanted to create the evolution of this look,” said John Moncke, Sporting KC’s Vice President of Stadium/Brand Revenue. “Our collection of kits are typically classic with a modern edge, but this look leans more on the modern side. Argyle has become an important brand element and we gave it a reflective metallic treatment. White and metallic silver are a very clean combination.”

MORALES, RIMANDO ON SCHEDULE TO FEATURE THIS WEEKEND
After missing last week’s loss to the New England Revolution, Nick Rimando and Javier Morales are expected to return sooner rather than later.
The duo are expected to return this weekend, says RSL head coach Jeff Cassar, as both returned to training this week. The returns will serve as welcome news for RSL, a team that has been hampered by injuries to Rimando, Morales, Chris Schuler, Joao Plata and Sebastian Jaime.
“To have so many guys out on the mend is definitely unusual, but we have to do it smart,’ Rimando said. “We can’t rush anybody back and we’ve got to make sure that everybody’s feeling good come game time.
“Those are always tough, but when you win with injuries, they say you have depth. When you lose, you use it as an excuse, and we can’t do that,” added Kyle Beckerman. “We have to keep working towards something that we can lean on, some foundation. There’s no excuse for this weekend. We have to get better.”
RSL is set to return to action Friday against the San Jose Earthquakes.
MYERS NEARING RETURN FOR SPORTING KC
Chance Myers has been on the sidelines for nearly a year, but the Sporting KC fullback’s recovery is beginning to reach it’s final stages.
Myers suffered a ruptured achilles tendon last May and has been out since, but head coach Peter Vermes says that the fullback could resurface as soon as June.
“He’s not going full contact, but he’s pretty close,” Vermes told MLSSoccer.com. “Where he’s at, it’s a great place. It’s really just week after week, we get more comfortable and so does he. It’s not going to be like one day where you go from no contact to full contact. It’s kind of a progression, and we’ll just keep feeling that out as he becomes more and more comfortable.”
So… are the 3rd kits silver and white?
The new Sporting KC kit and kick-off ad campaign are sick. I love how this new(er) ownership group continue to push the league to be better. SKC fans should be proud.
Kinda hard to tell if the kit is cool or not from a B&W vid…cool enough design though, could be pretty awesome.
