There were a trio of rough challenges in Week 8 that left players on their backs and caused MLS to dish out some fines and suspensions.
On the heels of rescinding Houston Dynamo defender Jermaine Taylor’s red card, the MLS Disciplinary Committee dished out suspensions and fines to Chicago Fire midfielder Matt Watson, Real Salt Lake midfielder John Stertzer and Sporting Kansas City midfielder Servando Carrasco.
Each player is suspended only one game but will also have to pay an undisclosed fine. Watson’s rough challenge on Adem Nemec forced the NYCFC forward off in the 34th. Stertzer’s tackle on Juan Agudelo also came early in the match vs. the New England Revolution and left the USMNT striker writhing in pain in the 10th minute.
Finally, Carrasco’s rough takedown of Giles Barnes in the second half against the Dynamo left the Jamacian international slow to get up and continue playing.
Meanwhile, the Dynamo, Sporting KC, the Vancouver Whitecaps and D.C. United all violated the mass confrontation policy, and Toronto FC defender Damien Perquis was fined for simulation against Orlando City.
lets count how many times the Dynamo can get worked over in one game…. so far, twice, and that is just how many times MLS officially admits…
Classic.
