This Weekend’s Soccer On TV

RealMadrid-Barcelona-Zimbio

By ADAM TROXTELL

Real Madrid’s title challenge may be decided this weekend, though the chance to catch up to league leading Barcelona may be prolonged.

Los Blancos host fourth place Valencia on Saturday, during the same week it was announced that Spanish league games across the country face suspension from May 16 due to a dispute over a proposed new broadcasting deal. That makes Real’s matchup with one of the few teams to best them this season even more vital.

Valencia, currently trying to cement the fourth and final UEFA Champions League spot, beat Los Blancos, 2-1, the last time the teams met back in January. Real remains in second place, two points behind Barcelona who plays Real Sociedad on Saturday.

Though the English Premier League title was wrapped up last weekend, Chelsea’s home match against Liverpool on Sunday still bears importance. With fourth-place Manchester United playing Crystal Palace the day before, the fifth-place Reds will be looking to benefit from any slip-ups.

The U.S. Women’s National Team continues preparations for the Women’s World Cup this summer with a friendly against Ireland on Sunday afternoon. That precedes MLS’s weekly national broadcast, as Toronto FC hosts the Houston Dynamo and the New York Red Bulls square off against city-rivals New York City FC.
