For the second time this year, Jermaine Jones is set for a spell on the sidelines as a result of a sports hernia.

The New England Revolution announced on Friday evening that Jones underwent a procedure to repair a bilateral sports hernia. The 33-year-old Jones is expected to be out for 6-8 weeks due to the injury, which he sustained in the first half of Revolution’s 2-2 draw with the LA Galaxy on May 31.

The operation explains Jones’ omission from the U.S. Men’s National Team’s preliminary CONCACAF Gold Cup roster that was released earlier this week. It is also not the first surgery Jones has had this year.

The veteran midfielder also went under the knife for a sports hernia back in February, and missed the start of the MLS campaign as a result. Since returning to the field in April, Jones has played in nine games for New England.

He is in the second of a two-year deal with the club.

What do you think of Jones missing 6-8 weeks? How do you see the Revolution faring without him? Starting to think that Jones’ body is breaking down?

  1. No Danny Williams and no Jermaine Jones.

I am guessing Klinsmann’s depth-chart for the holding/defensive midfielder spot looks like this:

    1. Beckerman
    2. Morales
    3. Kitchen
