Chelsea had very few problems in attack en route to a Premier League campaign title this past season, but the champions added to its potent attack Tuesday with the signing of Radamel Falcao.
Sky Sports News reported Tuesday that Colombia striker Falcao will stay in the Premier League after being loaned to Manchester United from Monaco and will now sign a year-long loan with Chelsea for the 2015-2016 season.
The Colombia star didn’t have the most fruitful season with Manchester United, scoring four goals in 26 appearances for Louis van Gaal, and the Red Devils decided to not keep him on a permanent basis.
With the recent release of Didier Drogba, Chelsea will look for the 29-year-old striker to fill a need up front.
Here are some more news and notes this Tuesday afternoon:
STOKE CITY INKS JOSELU FROM HANNOVER
After a strong top ten finish in the 2014-2015 EPL season, Stoke City are looking to improve even more heading into its next campaign.
According to Sky Sports News, Stoke City have acquired forward Joselu from Hannover in the Bundesliga. The former Real Madrid academy star is now moving to the EPL for an estimated $6.5 million transfer fee.
He scored eight goals in 30 appearances for Hannover, and in previous years, he scored for Eintracht Frankfurt and 1899 Hoffenheim.
BAYERN BOLSTER GOALKEEPING WITH ULREICH SIGNING
Bayern Munich has inked a three-year deal with goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, who’ll improve the German powerhouse’s defense even more.
He moves from Stuttgart, where he made 28 appearances, on an undisclosed fee and will be available for Pep Guardiola starting July 1.
“We’re very pleased with the signing of Sven Ulreich, an experienced Bundesliga goalkeeper,” FC Bayern Munich AG deputy chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen said in a club press release. “Sven Ulreich is a good fit to FC Bayern both as a player and in terms of character. We’re delighted he’s chosen to join us.”
SOUTHAMPTON SIGNS RECENT SPAIN NATIONAL TEAM CALL-UP JUANMI
After helping Malaga finish in the top ten in Spain’s Liga BBVA, forward Juanmi will head to England to ply his trade for Southampton.
Spain international Juanmi is set to swap La Liga for the Premier League after agreeing on a deal to join Southampton.
According to Goal.com, the Spanish international signed a four-year contract with the EPL club based in Hampshire. The 22-year-old striker also was recently called into Vicente del Bosque’s Spanish national team in March.
Juanmi netted eight in the 2014-2015 season and is set to bolster a Southampton side that finished eighth in its last campaign.
As a Man Utd fan, I hope that the two games he actually plays are against us. Nothing like playing a man up.
Let’s be honest. Falcao is massively overrated just like HULK. These guys have 1 or 2 really good seasons and then suddenly become flops. look at Cavani. He was arguably world classin Italy but has flopped in France. but sure Chelsea, waste your money
he tore it up in River (2yrs), Porto (2yrs), Atletico Madrid (2yrs) then in Monaco (1yr), but yea you’re right, he’s had only 1-2 good years….maybe, just maybe, he’s lost a step or two after his injury. It happens.
You are right about knee injuries. They say it takes more than one season to recover depending on the player.
Falcao may be done for good or he may finally bounce back and learn how to operate with his new knee.
If any club can afford to take on a “project” it is Chelsea.
