Report: Ronaldinho ‘bored’ in Mexico, interested in LA Galaxy

Ronaldinho’s time in Mexico appears to be nearing its end, and the Brazilian star has reportedly set his sights on his ideal home.

According to Marca, the Brazilian legend is “bored” with life in Mexico and is hoping to make a move to join the LA Galaxy. Ronaldinho is currently with Liga MX side Queretaro and signed a two-year contract with the club in 2014.

However, reports have frequently linked Ronaldinho with a move elsewhere, with Marca stating that the 35-year-old has grown disenchanted with the lifestyle at the club. The notoriously frequent party animal has reportedly grown tired of the monotonous lifestyle with the club.

With his sights set on LA, a move to the Galaxy would seem slightly unlikely given the club’s current situation. The Galaxy currently have all three Designated Player spots filled with forward Robbie Keane, centerback Omar Gonzalez and the soon-to-be-arriving Steven Gerrard.

During his time at Queretaro, Ronaldinho made 23 appearances, scoring eight goals.

What do you think of the latest Ronaldinho rumor? Any chance he ends up with the Galaxy? What teams could you see him suiting up for?

  1. A 4th DP, even with some of the parameters described, will be very very interesting. It will probably result in WW3 between Galaxy and Seattle.

  2. Scott, have u been using drugs? This guy is an insane talent and would make a mockery of nearly any fullback in MLS when in the mood to show off. He could down 15 goals without blinking. The real problem is he’s not known for being fully committed to showing up every game n staying fit.

  3. Not as a DP!

Sorry, but Ronaldihno is no longer DP caliber playing level, I know Ronaldihno is still a big name but no longer major impact player.

  4. If I was LA galaxy I would definitely take him. He is practically in good shape. and just needs that final push to reach 100%
he didn’t trained or played 100% and we all know why, it a little town where he lived and he needs the big lights to play like a real ronaldinho.
give him a chance, make a sweet contract saying, u get in shape and stay out of trouble then we got u a bonus and a new contract.
I say galaxy take him or Nyc will.

  5. He’d still be worth double the price of any ticket to watch on any MLS team but there’s no way in hell he’s coming here for less than $6 million a year and I think Galaxy have tried to get him a couple times before….ya snooze, ya lose. He’s one of the most amazing talents ever, but I don’t think he’ll ever be here.

  6. He can either play in the Ascenso or NASL. He won’t get DP money and LA does not have a DP slot open once the Englishman gets there.

  7. None of your comments will impact whether or not he will sign with the Galaxy. Stop arguing with each other over the internet. Find out where each other live and settle it in person if you really feel strongly against someone.

Condescending others and hiding behind your computers make me sick

    • What? They’re not listening to us? Thank you so much for setting all of us straight! I really thought the Galaxy would make their decisions based on our comments here. You are a true internet hero! All users on the net will now be polite to one another!

      Condescending enough for you?

      • Guy,

This is a cry for attention. Read the articles, keep your opinions to yourself, or tell it to someone who cares about what you have to say. You won’t find that here, and you continue to hide behind your laptop because you don’t have any of the fulfillment once you press the power button. Find something else to be passionate about, because searching blogs and websites to belittle people isn’t going to bring you as much happiness as you think it does in the moment.

  8. Could’ve been as good or better than Messi if he ever actually tried. Ridiculous how good he once was when it seems like he never really focused fully on football.

    • Ronny in his prime v. Messi in his prime is a tougher argument than you might think. Ronaldinho was arguably a more complete player when he was running Barca — better tactician, passer and free kick taker. He wasn’t necessarily looked upon to score all the goals. Messi is obviously otherworldly (and in my opinion the best all-time overall) but I’m not sure if Messi’s ever quite had the foundational performance that Ronaldinho had against Real Madrid in Madrid when he got a standing ovation.

      • Ronny kinda reminds me of Pedro Martinez of the Red Sox…for a very, very narrow window he might have been the best ever.

    • Have to disagree – Ronny was never at the level of Messi (or Pedro Martinez in his prime). Totally off topic but Pedro’s prime (1997-2003) is longer than you think and at his peak was easily the best pitcher I ever saw. And I say this as a Yankee fan.

  9. I will buy his jersey as soon as he is signed (and I’m a DC United fan). To have a player of that caliber is worth it and will bring the level of the game up. Ronaldino, Robbie Keane and Gerrad will definitely fill up stadiums, increase awareness and bring popularity to the sport. Sometimes its not ALL about winning……it was always more “fun” watching Thierry Henry, David Beckham or currently watching Kaka or Giovinco in action…..than watching Chis Rolfe, Fabian Espindola etc on a “winning” DC United team

    • Bring popularity to the sport? Really?
Ask a non soccer fan to name a current soccer player…they’d probably say David Beckham, then maybe Messi and Ronaldo.
      They certainly won’t say Ronaldhino.
I’d take a chance on a very low DP salary if I was DC, but you’re kidding yourself if you think he’s going to be a draw outside of soccer fans.

      • one youtube video about Ronaldino and its a different story, whether he’s still that Barcelona player or not, and for most soccer fans that look down on MLS but watch EPL it’s something to divert their interest and attention. Good advertizing with a player like that fills stadium seats Taking a chance on DP’s like Bradley or Altidore does not increase the talent level of the game like a Ronaldino, Beckham, Giovinco, Keane, Henry, Kaka, Villa etc

      • I can make a Youtube video of any player in the world and make him look like Messi.
It takes watching 90 to see if a player has skills or not. Soccer fans that favor EPL over MLS are smart enough to see that Ronaldino’s time has long passed, and all he cares about is the money and the night life.

      • “It takes watching 90 to see if a player has skills or not”…….lets me know you know nothing of what you are talking about, and you confuse consistency and Talent/skill

      • It’s more “fun” watching a DP when they actually contribute to winning. Winning is fun. Henry was fun to watch because he played incredibly hard and was still a good player.

  10. He’s “bored” not cashing big enough paychecks and thinks LAG will be suckered into offering him one last payday. No doubt this guy could still contribute in MLS if he’s motivated but it’s been a while since he was motivated by anything other than $. No thanks.

    • I watched almost all of Atletico Minerio’s Copa Lib winning run in 2013. He was a major part of that. No, he’s not nearly in his prime. But he would be a very good MLS player if he played at his 2013 level. Can or will he? That I can’t say. But I’d give him a two-year deal at under $1 million to find out given the upside on the field and the marketing.

  11. Call his bluff. Offer him a contract that doesn’t touch DP money and see if he bites. He’s gotten plenty of money from previous contracts. If he is serious, he’ll sign. He’s 35 and hasnt been in a top league in years.

  12. With the original Ronaldo owning the Ft Lauderdale Stikers I could see them taking a shot but it won’t be for the money he wants. Maybe Orlando City too.

  13. Would be interesting to hear what his teammates have to say about him. Truly their opinion is of the most value.

  14. Ship Omar to Seattle and then they can pick him up.

NASL IN ELPASO WHERE ARE YOU !?!?!?

  15. Well, at least he’s honest about his motivation for considering MLS. Does anything about his recent performance in Mexico justify paying him what he will undoubtedly want in MLS?

  16. The Galaxy should stay as far away from Ronaldinho has possible. He’s worn out his welcome at countless clubs and the same story will repeat itself with the Galaxy.

    • Well, let’s see. He was the unquestioned best player in the world for Barca, who then let him go after a subpar year and Messi’s emergence. His play was mixed, but well enough for AC Milan, leading Serie A in assists his second season. He then went to Flamengo, wtih whom he won the Rio State championship but the left when the club ran into financial trouble and they didn’t pay him. He then went to Atletico Mineiro, with whom he was instrumental in winning the 2013 Copa Libertadores, won a 2012 Brazilian Golden Ball, and was named 2103 South American Player of the Year. He then went to Mexico, where he played a part in taking Queretaro deep into the MX playoffs and had a few highlight-reel performances. Not a shabby resume despite everything said about him. I’d give him shy of a million on a two-year deal. The shirt sales and marketing are worth that.
