Cyle Larin came off of the bench in the 66th minute of play against the Chicago Fire on Saturday, and was a key component in what was a quick turnaround for Orlando City on the night.

The Canadian international was able to come in and provide a goal for an Orlando City side attacking spark, earning SBI MLS Rookie of the Week.

Larin scored a rocket from outside of the box eight minutes from time. After receiving the ball ball at midfield, Larin lost his balance but outwitted defender Adailton and found himself with space at the top of the box before firing a missle of a shot for the late equalizer.

The Canadian was again in the action as Carlos Rivas played a ball into the box that resulted in a second Adailton own-goal on the night. Larin was in prime position to tap in the ball, but the Fire defender did his work for him by bumping the ball into the back of the net in an attempt to clear, giving Orlando City all three points.

Larin beats out Matt Polster, Ignacio Maganto, and Axel Sjoberg for this week’s honors.

What did you think of Larin’s performance? What rookie stood out for you this weekend?

  1. irrelevant observation: Larin looks like he’s gained 40 pounds in 2 weeks… I understand rookie’s trying to bulk up but he looks like old Ronaldo (the real ronaldo)
