With two games on the schedule this past week, the Montreal Impact emerged with all six points.

The Impact kept a potent Vancouver Whitecaps attack quiet on Wednesday night, while beating the Columbus Crew on the road Saturday night, earning SBI MLS Team of the Week

After Jack McInerney’s early strike, a Pedro Morales penalty in the 79th minute threatened to rob the Impact of two points at home in the week’s opener. Ignacio Piatti came to the rescue, though, and struck past David Ousted in the 83rd minute.

On Saturday, the Impact beat the Crew ending the team’s 25-game winless streak when on the road in MLS. McInerney set up Maxim Tissot after the forward’s close-range strike was parried away by Steve Clark and fell to the Canadian to put away. Wednesday’s other goalscorer, Piatti, was a vital part of Montreal’s second goal against the Crew, as the midfielder and Andres Romero took advantage of an exposed Crew defense to make it 2-0 with a chip from Romero.

The Impact beat out the Portland Timbers, Houston Dynamo and Sporting KC for this week’s honors.

What did you think of the Impact’s performances this week? What other teams impressed you?

  1. While scoring-wise it was a one-man show, TFC did well to beat DC in DC without Bradley and mostly without Altidore. There may be more to TFC than just Giovinco, Bradely and Altidore.
