The game had barely gotten underway before the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team was dealt another blow.

Just three minutes into their 1-0 Round of 16 win against Colombia, the U.S. U-20s lost forward Bradford Jamieson to a scary injury. Jamieson was tackled off the ball and fell hard on his right arm and shoulder, and laid motionless for several minutes while being tended to by the medical staff.

After the medical assessment, U.S. head coach Tab Ramos went to his bench, bringing on Jordan Allen in Jamieson’s place. Jamieson’s neck was stabilized and he was stretchered off the field in the 11th minute.

A U.S. Soccer spokesperson confirmed to SBI during the second half of the match in Wellington, New Zealand, that Jamieson had been transported to a local hospital, but no other details were provided.

The injury to Jamieson will be particularly tough one for the U.S. to take if he is not deemed ready for Sunday’s quarterfinals bout with Serbia. Jamieson was the player who performed well in place of the injured Maki Tall, who broke the big toe in his left foot during the Americans’ first match of the FIFA U-20 World Cup against Myanmar.

The U.S. also lost defensive midfielder Russell Canouse to a right ankle injury before the start of the tournament.

What did you think of Jamieson’s injury? Is there a chance he could suit up on Sunday vs. Serbia? Who do you see stepping into his place in the lineup if he can’t play?

      • It’s just a concussion and sore neck. If he passes protocol then he will play. At worst he will be in a semifinal if we make it. We would need his speed and guile to beat the germans.

  1. Bradford Jamieson should not play even if he says he is fine. INjuries like the one he has are not to be fooled with even if it means that he won’t play. Calling this injury a contusion kind of makes it sound less bad than a concussion. But whatever you call it, there should be no reason to play him. This injury reminds me of Stephen Curry’s “contusion”, and look how his performance on the court is not up to par.

    • I guess you missed Curry in the 4th Q last night… outside of two turnovers he pretty much brought GS back into the game along with David Lee.

      • Some of the threes he made towards the end of the game were insane, no other player could have taken let alone made the threes he made.

I feel GSW will blow out CLE on thursday

    • If he passes protocol then you have to play him. I think we would have been much more threatening with his speed and technique up top. Allen was too simple in his play and wasted many opportunities to beat one defender and get in on goal. He also selfishly kept doing it instead of passing to teammates streaking in endline or heading to the box.

  2. Hope BJIV is OK. Best wishes out to him.

There may be no one on Earth who’s better equipped to comfort BJIV in this situation than Tab – the dude who received the most viscous face-fracturing elbow I’ve ever seen, in a World Cup game against Brazil.

    • We have enough field players but out stars have been decimated. This team is a shell of what it could have been. Canouse, Tall, now BJIV were all key players. The tactical formations and subs are all screwed up . Now Acosta is gone so Requejo is in, some would say that it an improvement. It is telling that Sonora isn’t playing much. Payne was great. Rubin is great, Hyndman and Zelalem underwhelming but also undersized for this matchup. I don’t know how much further we can go. I expected quarterfinal but not with this decimated lineup.

    • Adversity breeds success in a lot of these cases. This team has a chance to pull together now to become stronger as a group.
