FC Dallas continues to make it look easy atop the Western Conference.
Having won four straight entering Saturday night, FC Dallas smashed four past the Portland Timbers while cruising to a dominant 4-1 win at Toyota Stadium. The win marks the team’s fifth straight victory, FC Dallas’ longest such streak since 1999.
The hosts were led by a Michael Barrios brace, with the midfielder providing both goals within the first 22 minutes.
Barrios kickstarted the attack in the 12th minute by punishing the Timbers on a counter attack.
Leading the charge with pace, Barrios passed the ball off and darted forward before receiving a pass from Kellyn Acosta near the top of the box. Barrios took a touch before rocketing a shot past Adam Kwarasey, giving both himself and his side the first goal of the night.
The midfielder added his second 10 minutes later, banking a shot off two defenders to complete his brace.
FC Dallas was far from done, though, as Acosta and Mauro Diaz each provided second-half finishes.
Acosta’s tally came in the 69th minute, juking past a defender before taking a touch towards the top of the box. Unleashing a left-footed shot, Acosta’s effort went straight into the lower corner to push the lead to three.
From there, Diaz and Timbers forward Fanendo Adi each added penalty kicks within the game’s waning moments, with the latter’s proving little more than a consolation in a dominant FC Dallas win.
With the win, FC Dallas stays atop the Western Conference before visiting the Chicago Fire next Sunday, while the Timbers cling to the final postseason position heading into a matchup with the San Jose Earthquakes that very same day.
Acosta is a player to watch for the futre of the UMNT. He should definetly be in the running to replace beckerman as a dedicated defensive midfielder.
Good game, Timbers unlucky not to get a couple of goals, and the last Dallas goal called a penalty was definitely outside the box…
I was impressed with the first half from the ref, though Diaz was obviously frustrated by how physical the play was allowed to be…but he went way down hill in the second half, for both teams…
Keep it rollin’ in Chi-town, boys!
