The 4th of July weekend is a special one or American soccer fans, as one national team prepares to try and defend a title, and another attempts to win its first one in 16 years.
Episode 219 of The SBI Show previews the Women’s World Cup final, which will pit the U.S. Women’s National Team against Japan in a rematch of the 2011 World Cup final, won by the Japanese.
Co-host Garrett Cleverly and I also discuss the U.S. Men’s National Team’s friendly against Guatemala on Friday, and what we should expect from Jurgen Klinsmann’s team in its final Gold Cup tune-up match.
We also discuss the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16, and preview MLS Week 18.

What did you think of the show? See the USWNT winning the World Cup? What will you be looking forward to seeing from the USMNT?

Ives, where’s a good peruvian restaurant in the Dallas area?
Nice show, but I believe we are gonna score 2-3 unanswered goals against the Japanese.
As a Quakes fan, am I allowed to hate Donovan for taking his talents to LA?
Also, maybe you mean something unconventional by “stable,” but few countries have as stable leadership as Russia (unfortunately). Putin has the full support of the military and intelligence service. And he is hugely popular. And even if that changes, he has destroyed democracy in Russia and will remain President even in the event his popularity declines.
An no, there is no war in Russia. There’s a war in Ukraine that Russia has instigated. And they’ve sent troops. But Ukraine is a different country, despite what Putin thinks.
Did you drink all the kool aid?
Have you got anything positive and meaningful to add to the discussion?

IVES…you NEVER…EVER…EVER fail to impress with your song selection. I miss 90’s hip hop. Yes, there was crap, but there was also SO MUCH quality.
RIP GURU!
Pet Peeve Alert!
Please do not say “you make your own luck.” This is one of the most ridiculous sports clichés.
You don’t. If you do, it is by definition NOT LUCK.
When you say “they made their own luck” what you are really doing is denying that they were lucky. And that’s fine. But just say that.
Have you got anything positive and meaningful to add to the discussion?
Thanks Ives for the shout out. I do enjoy the show. I’m an FC Dallas fan and die hard USA and live in the DFW area and will be at the USA vs. Honduras game Tuesday night. Would like to meet you and say hello and leave you alone after that if you get a chance. Let me know if you can make that happen. Angelo Carter.

Good show. But you guys need to mix it more evenly. Garrett is very loud and Ives sounds like he’s in a room 50 feet away. I have to turn it up and down based on whoever’s talking.
Could you guys give at what time you talk about the topics. Usually I can’t listen to the whole show but would like to skip directly to the segment i want to hear.
Thanks.
