In Panama, the U.S. is facing an opponent that they have seen previously in the tournament, as the two played to a 1-1 draw in their third and final group stage match.

  1. I do have a problem with the US men’s team, a big one. Being a Vet of the Vietnam ear, I have much pride in my country. When I see a US team, yes the Men’s soccer team or any other supported both emotionally and financially by this country and its citizens – stand without acknowledging the United States anthem it infuriates me! They never utter as much as a single word of the Anthem – this is our county and many have given their lives for the right of our existence and these athletes snub their noses at OUR sacrifices. How can they be a team while at their very core they are divided – even JK acknowledges the Anthem, to his credit.

If you want a TEAM – then you must make sure the base is strong and these athletes must all get on board with Nation – Citizens – Team – or they will never play with the heart that we see other countries play with.

  2. Sad day for US Soccer. Pressure is now on klinsi because a fourth place finish is unacceptable. If he loses the play in game it’s time to consider a new direction.

  3. wow! around the 40″ minute, Brook yells at Omar for not challenging the ball in the air after a cross… is Omar sabotaging the Brooks-Alvarado pairing? Omar played ugly and made Brooks looked bad when JAB was late to help.

  4. this was ugly… it dont matter if Klint scored 6 goals in GC… 118 minutes, US on the counter, crosses the midfield line via Corona, Dempsey ahead of him… Dempsey slows his run, now Corona ahead of him and passes to Dempsey who passes the ball back to midfield…WTF?

  5. Absolutely embarassing. It could’ve (should’ve) easily been 1-4 or 1-5. I haven’t seen the US national team dominated like that by a CONCACAF opponent since mid 80’s.

  6. I guess Donovan and now Besler were not good enough because alledged criticism of the Chosen One. JK and Sunil have caused a lot of regression and lack of confidence in the football team. One or both of them need to go. I don’t expect the play off in October to be different. I laughed when Donovan said the USAWNT can beat the USAMNT.

  7. Crazy responses. There was nothing for the U.S. to play for. Everything for Panama to play for. Also Panama is a good team, they should have beaten Mexico, if not for the penalty call.

  8. Whelp! What now? Our players are low in confidence! The ones that are normally good did not playing that well except Dempsey! Makes me wonder how the locker room’s been

    • I’ve noticed a lot of finger pointing this tournament. Lots of hands in the air and wtf looks to one another this tournament. Not sure Klinsmann lost the team… Maybe he simply failed to build one.

  9. If we have truly become a ‘soccer nation’, it is the responsibility of our media to question if JK is the right man for the job after such a dour tourney performance. Every other ‘soccer nation’ would apply immense pressure.

  10. Do I sense the tide is turning? There are coaches with better resume than JK out there? Sunil had blinders on when he hired him. Its a farce to think we need to hire a Coach familiar with USA system. We need a Coach who knows the game, is a tactician and can evaluate the players. Our current Coach lacks that ability.

    • We can only hope. Unfortunately I think we’re stuck with this guy thru 2018. Which means more lectures about fitness, baffling selections and facile tactics.

    • I had a humorous quip typed out and then deleted. To get to the point, Klinsmann must go. I can not name one player who has improved in his time as manager. Development is the job of the clubs but performance in a national team jersey is up to Klinsmann and the improvement in this area is void.

  11. Johannsson, Bradley, Johnson, Dempsey, and Beasley are my penalty takers. Maybe Ream and Corona if its stilll tied.

  12. If we lose this game, at minimum, Gulati must issue a “vote of confidence”. It appears he has lost this team. There is nothing

  13. Theses are the ones chosen by JK. JK looks just as confused as his players. Reminds me of what his Bayern players said about him. He lacks tactical awareness.

    • AND YET…. after Klinsmann left Bayern they won and kept winning, like after Klinsmann left die Mannschaft they soon became the best in the world.

    • I’m not defending Klinsmann since there is so much blame to go around after this game, but it’s not tactical awareness that leads to bad passes, defensive players making basic mistakes in positioning, and getting out fought for almost every ball. The issue today was lack of heart more than anything.

  14. In any other sport, the following discussion would be had by a superior to their coach: ‘So, we were just outplayed in 5 of the 6 games we just played, and those teams simply should not have superior talent to us. What’s going on?’ Will that discussion be had after this tourney?

  15. Has John Brooks won a physical confrontation this entire Gold Cup? And overall, is this the softest U.S. squad ever?

    • To be fair, the U.S. as a whole has looked lackluster. Clint Dempsey has added a spark, but that’s what he does. Panama did have the better chances at the end of regular time, but it’s anyone’s game right now.

  16. CD and DY coming on for Wondo and Zusi and producing a goal rather quickly is somewhat poetic… Wondo and Zusi, thanks for your service but this is what we need more of out of your positions. 🙂
