Following a summer of rumors linking him with a move abroad, David de Gea will not be in goal for Manchester United this weekend.

Citing de Gea’s transfer “problem”, manager Louis van Gaal says that the Spanish goalkeeper will not start the team’s opening game against Tottenham on Saturday.

“We have problems of course with De Gea,” van Gall said. “He shall not play. I think a human being is more than just a player. He cannot manage that. You have to wait and see who is starting.

“That is in process. I cannot lead this process. I can only watch and observe and that is what I am doing but I am not participating in the process.”

In addition, the Dutch manager said that Bastian Schweinsteiger will also miss the opening week’s festivities while he continues to build fitness.

“Schweinsteiger came at the last moment out of his holidays,” van Gaal explained. “I don’t think he is fit enough. We have to build him to the fitness I think he needs.”
