The Montreal Impact will be be without not one, but two of their most dangerous attacking players this weekend.

Didier Drogba has been ruled out for the Impact’s road game vs. Toronto FC on Saturday because of a toe injury, according to a report from Canadian outlet RDS25. Drogba has reportedly not traveled with his teammates to Toronto, and will miss his second straight game across all competitions after sitting out Wednesday’s Canadian Championship finals second leg loss vs. the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The 37-year-old striker, who signed on with the Impact in late July, joins teammate and fellow Designated Player Ignacio Piatti on the sidelines for this match at BMO Field because of health issues.

Drogba has played one game to date for Montreal, coming off the bench and playing the final 31 minutes of the club’s 1-0 home loss against the Philadelphia Union on Aug. 22.

Montreal currently holds the sixth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but has games in hand that could help it up dart up the standings.

What do you think about Drogba reportedly missing this weekend’s bout with Toronto FC? Worried that his health will be a recurring issue during the remainder of the season? Still have faith that Montreal can pull out a road win without him and Piatti?

  1. U can’t argue with signings like Beckham, Henry, Kaka, and Giovinco. Ticket and jersey sales alone easily paid back those salaries, double-fold.

So far though, Drogba and Lampard have been total jokes.

    • True character comes out.

I have always hated those signings. Sure Keane is 110 percent effort, but look at Gerrard who IS playing, barely, and the other slackers. They dont value MLS, now MLS shouldnt be baluing them, they bring nothing, so dont bring em.

Instead they vzlue them at 6 million bucks per year.

  2. I see Drogba had that clause within his contact after becoming a DP which stated he’s entitled to miss 50-80% of his matches in his first year.

    Awesome.

I still think Montreal can win, but I have a feeling the other 4 o’clock match will make for a more interesting watch.

    • +1 A longstanding complaint I had about this site– the lack of Doug Williams quotes. Nice to see the problem being addressed.
