If Robbie Keane keeps playing like this, the LA Galaxy might just be unbeatable.
Keane helped propel the Galaxy to their latest lopsided victory on Sunday, as he scored two goals and assisted on another pair in the 5-1 dismantling of New York City FC. Keane’s dominant performance at StubHub Center sparked conversation about him being a serious candidate in the MLS MVP race, but it also claimed an award for the veteran striker.
The 35-year-old Keane won the SBI MLS Player of the Week honors for his stellar showing, which began with him being denied by the crossbar on a strong effort in the fist half. Driven and not disappointed, Keane kept going at NYCFC’s defense.
He set up Gyasi Zardes’ opener in the first half and scored one himself in the 54th minute. Keane recorded his second assist of the match 13 minutes later, and then capped the impressive display for himself and the Galaxy with a close-range finish in the 81st minute.
Keane beat out a strong list of contenders for the accolade, including Toronto FC midfielder Michael Bradley, Chris Wondolowski of the San Jose Earthquakes, and the Columbus Crew’s Ethan Finlay.
What do you think about Keane being named the SBI MLS Player of Week? How impressive was his performance vs. NYCFC? Which other players really stood out to you from this round of MLS action?

Exactly @Alexh!
Sebastian Lletget needs to get a call-up ASAP.
Absolutely! His play on the left is as good as Zardas on the right who has become a regular on the national team. If SL works out then Fabian could then lock down the LB position.which is screaming to be locked down.
Keane is superb, but better than Giovinco? I don’t think so. Can u imagine what Giovinco could do if on the Galaxy??
I see your point, but a player can only bury the chances that he gets and Keane, to his credit, is putting his chances away.
I think that RK is also extremely valuable as a team leader as well. It is pretty clear from watching the LAG play that RK is keeping everybody in line which is essential when you have such strong personalities all around. Lots of talented teams implode under the weight of their own egos but I don’t think Robbie will let that happen.
I think Giovinco is a slightly better player, and he certainly has youth on his side, but Keane is a smarter player. He makes everyone around him better because he sees the game like Neo sees the Matrix.
It’s hard to believe Robbie Keane is 35. He’s been playing forever, but it’s like he’s aging in reverse.
Compare Keane to Pirlo, Gerrard and Lampard ( can’t really compare there, as he doesn’t ever play ).
He is younger, but he is the best player in MLS right now. The others are a bad, really bad punch line.
It’s a night-and-day comparison between Keano and those guys. Yeah, he’s a year or two younger, but he moves like he’s 10 years younger. The man is blessed with good genes and he obviously takes very good care of himself.
Here’s some perspective on how long Keane’s been playing. I’m 31 years old. He made his pro debut for Wolverhampton when I was in 8th grade. I don’t even remember 8th grade.
