The stars were on full display on Sunday when the LA Galaxy faced off against New York City FC, but only one team’s stars really shined.
Episode 227 of The SBI Show looks back on MLS Week 25, including the Galaxy’s romp over NYCFC, which featured Robbie Keane’s latest virtuoso performance. We also discuss Vancouver’s latest impressive win, and Sporting KC’s suddenly slump.
Co-host Garrett Cleverly and I also discuss the latest on the Americans Abroad front, including Gedion Zelalem’s loan to Glasgow Rangers, Tim Ream’s move to Fulham, and more.
We also discuss some European soccer, some movies, and some new TV shows that recently debuted.

I’m biased as a timbers fan, but way too much Seattle hype. They beat a depleted Orlando team when they were up a man for a majority of the game.
Think back two seasons ago when they brought in Dempsey midseason and he did nothing for the rest of 2013. I don’t know that Seattle has that great a track record with integrating new players midseason.
If they lose to Portland on Sunday they are in trouble, and Sigi has to be coaching for his job.
Great show esepecially the part about moving the show to England to make a bigger salary lol but why did this get repostes today? Thought it was a new show but turns out it was orig postes a couple days ago…?
When Ives recommended “Mr. Robinson”, I thought he tanked it and meant Mr. Robot, which is awesome. No, he was really talking about Mr. Robinson. I like Craig Robinson, but that show looked pretty bad.
Anyway, Mr. Robot is awesome.
Nice of SBI to give Robbie Keane his due this year. I stand by last year’s statement, which is being borne out this year in spades. Robbie Keane > Lee Nguyen, who may have been the MVP of his own team last year on a technicality!
The technicality being that Jermaine Jones was a late addition to the squad last year.
STOP PLAYING GAMES JURGEN CALL UP SEBASTIAN LLETGET
RELAX! Didn’t Lletget only transfer over in mid/late May? Before then, he wasn’t even dressing for West Ham. He never appeared for them in 4 or 5 years…ever! He looks good, so now I think he should get a look, especially since he is only 22/23. If Jurgen does not call him, then complain.
Lletget has done really well.
At West Ham he got sick for a while with mono and that slowed him down some plus the club was in some turmoil for most of the time he was there and my guess is weren’t in the mood to take a chance on young players.
And of course the competition is brutal.
At LA he has no competition and is surrounded by a lot of other players ( Keane, Zardes, Gerrard, Gio, Juninho, etc.) who are going to get a lot more attention from the opposition than he does.
So he has a lot of chances to do good things unlike in England.
The relationship that Arena and JK have means that JK is well informed on LA’s US players so I have little doubt that Lletget will get his shot should he continue to produce.
Great show! Your assessment of the games and players is spot on. The only thing that annoys me is that LA Galaxy is stacked too much with stars which makes it not that entertaining because teams playing against them look boring. I fell asleep watching that game. I like even the loser to look competitive.
My condolences. You missed a great showcase of team and skill by the Galaxy, namely one Sebastian Lletget, who is awesome out on the field.
Barcelona and Madrid make other teams look bad. Bayern makes the other Bundesliga clubs appear feeble in comparison. You don’t see anyone calling for them to bring in fewer stars.
One!!! -GFK
Totally agree with the intro. They got to get rid of the ridiculous pageantry. Its bad enough having kids be walking billboards for Wells Fargo, but the confetti was just absurd. Its as if they bought 20 tons of confetti at the beginning of the season and were hellbent on using it.
Great episode, thanks fellas.
I read some reviews that said Craig Robinson’s show was crap. I’m a fan of his as well, so I’m glad to hear that there are those who say otherwise, and I’ll have to binge the first season sometime when I get a chance, probably at work…
Not the best show ever, but funny enough to make worth watching. Especially this time of year when there weren’t a ton of other things to watch.
It’s not a great show. But hey, even Louis CK had “Lucky Louie” before he had “Louie”. Hopefully Craig doesn’t get discouraged and gives it another whirl.
