Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

Tim Howard Everton 55

By ADAM TROXTELL

Everton will hope to put up a better defensive effort in week two of English Premier League action with a trip to face Southampton.

The Toffees and goalkeeper Tim Howard will try to work past Leighton Baines’ injury and John Stones’ distraction by the Chelsea transfer saga to bounce back from a 2-2 draw against promoted Watford last weekend. Southampton also drew in their opening weekend game against Newcastle, though strikers Graziano Pelle and Shane Long started their seasons off by getting on the score sheet.

The Bundesliga is back starting this weekend with a host of games today. Bayer Leverkusen start their top-four quest against Hoffenheim, while Werder Bremen and Schalke square off elsewhere. Later, Dortmund starts what it hopes will be a much improved campaign by hosting Borussia Monchengladbach.

Cruz Azul and Club Tijuana start off the day’s Liga MX action. Further north, Jozy Altidore returns to his roots when Toronto FC travels to face the New York Red Bulls in MLS action.

Comments

  1. Fabian Johnson gets the start against Borussia Dortmund at left midfield on FS2. But they are down 3-0 after 45 minutes as Dortmund looks like their title contending selves.

Johnson hasn’t been great but neither has his team.

    • Fabian and all the BMG attackers had little to work with.

Dortmund took this game from the opening whistle and never let it go. That’s what they call putting on a clinic.

I don’t think you can say much of anything about Fabian based on this game. Dortmund were that dominant.

  2. NBC Live Extra stopped working at halftime for tons of people. I still don’t understand how other apps cannot keep up with the Watch ESPN app. it has never failed. NBC sucks, Foxgo sucks, MLS Live is streaky. just buy the ESPN software developers out and use their system, lol

    • the shade of green is a little too pukey for my liking, i give them credit for using green but they need to adjust the RGB lol

      • It may also present a challenge under certain lighting conditions for the tv cameras to pickup enough contrast with the grass.

  3. Cameron went 90 at CB for stoke. A must add for the Confed Cup playoff if he keeps this up.

Ream looks to be moving to Fulham instead of QPR.

  4. Alfredo Morales and Aron Johannsson both made their Bundesliga debuts, Alfredo went 90 in Ingolstadt’s 1-0 win over Mainz and Johannsson came on in the 57′ minute in Werder Breman 3-0 loss to Schalke.

  5. Newcastle down a goal and down a man. Janmat with two yellow cards, both done needlessly, both from midfield. As you were watching that game you could tell a second yellow was just waiting to happen. Absolutely pathetic from a full international to do something like that.
