Danny Williams demonstrated a couple of weeks ago with the U.S. Men’s National Team how he can contribute offensively, and he did it again for Reading this weekend.
Williams helped pace Reading to a 2-0 victory against Bristol City on Saturday by setting up an early game-winner in the road game. The veteran midfielder, who scored the U.S.’s lone goal against Brazil on Sept. 8, fed Nick Blackman nine minutes into the match that moved the Royals up to sixth place in the Championship. Williams start and went the distance in the game.
Another American to have a noteworthy performance in England this weekend was Tim Howard. Just days after winning Everton’s Player of the Month award for August, Howard helped his club grab a result via a scoreless draw with Swansea City at Liberty Stadium on Saturday. The match saw Howard post his third cleansheet of the young Premiership campaign and the Toffees are now in sixth place.
Not everything was a positive development, however. DeAndre Yedlin was left as an unused substitute in his first match for Sunderland, a 2-0 loss to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, and both John Brooks and Fabian Johnson failed to dress for their respective clubs because they are not yet fully recovered from their injuries.
Here is how the Americans Abroad did this weekend:

What do you think of these performances? Hoping to see Williams start for the USMNT next month against Mexico because of the form he is in? How impressed have you been by Howard’s start to the Premiership season?
Share your thoughts below.
I wish Ives did a Santa Monica co ed Sunday league wrap up because I scored two goals and kept a clean sheet yesterday.
I’m not looking for a call up, but I have been more consistent than a lot of our guys.
yikes
This feels like the early 2000s when very few Yanks played in top euro divisions.
MLS has drastically overpaid for some of our top players. DEMPSEY, Bradley, Altidore should be in europe playing for big clubs and creating history.
I understand they make tons more at home and its all comfy. But how does that help the NT? How does it help clubs in europe who may wanna scout some US players in MLS?
Mexico = La Liga #ONLYTRUTHNOLIE
Pathetic. If any one of you thinks we are going to beat Mexico with these second division and bench warmer losers you either delusional and got another thing coming, like a Cinco a Cero.
while I favor Mexico, over the last twenty years, Mexico has always had more players playing in bigger leagues, much less their domestic >> our domestic. The score lines don’t reflect that. Come up with a relevant analysis, rather than repeating a discredited one.
Our Best XI, if healthy and given a few matches to develop some chemistry, would not worry me against Mexico’s Best XI. They might lose, but they might win.
Unfortunately, neither of those criteria are true right now.
Zack Steffen? SC Frieberg?
I believe that Yedlin will dress. I believe that Yedlin will dress. I believe…
I believe that Yedlin has been with a team for 3 training sessions and is already slated to start against Manchester City on Tuesday.
I love how every American who leaves the MLS cocoon is treated like dog shit.
I had on the Birmingham City game and was doing some other stuff at the time, but I think that it was
Spector who made a bad foul in the box that led to a penalty kick and the winning goal. Ouch, not a good weekend for Americans Abroad.
So, is Hyndman in the doghouse, destined to not see the field until the end of the year?
Yea he won’t sign a new contract with them and they turned down multiple offers for him over the summer from other clubs
He is a future product that Fulham were willing to give considerable time so he could work on his game and get better. Now that he refuses to sign a contract and wants to leave, Fulham no longer see a point in making him a better player just for him to leave for free.
Seems to be the case anyway.
Not to mention Jaime O’Hara has been playing great in central midfield for Fulham so even on merit alone, I couldn’t see Hyndman making the pitch.
And yet, Joe Corona still gets called up
He is one of Klinsi’s preffered candonowrong ones. We know his special love is reserved for Lazy Antigoal.
“Lazy” anti goal is our most consistent goal threat.
Maybe thats why we are doing so well lately, specially in the Gold Cup at home.
