Tim Howard collects Everton’s Player of the Month award for August

Tim Howard Everton 11

Tim Howard’s strong month at Everton has not gone unnoticed.

Everton has named Howard its Player of the Month for August following his contributions during the opening month of the 2015-16 season. Howard helped the Toffees go 1-1-2 in their first four league games of the new campaign, and posted a pair of shutouts in a win over Southampton and draw with Tottenham.

The veteran goalkeeper’s performance on the road against Spurs was especially impressive, as he made six saves to hold Tottenham scoreless.

Howard – who just returned to the U.S. Men’s National Team earlier this month as its backup goalkeeper – has helped Everton collect eight points from five matches thus far. The Toffees currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League standings

What do you think of Howard being named Everton’s Player of the Month for August? Agree with the decision? Still think he should be the No. 1. for the USMNT?

  1. To be fair. MADRID has a world class defensive backline. EVERTON has a good backline on the cheap.

But is Navas a better GK than Howard? HOWARD was a starter for Man U for a year. Lets see how Navas season goes. He had the best WC of any Concacaf keeper sans Brad Friedel in 2002.

    What do you guys think

  2. Odd that he got player of the month – would have given it to Barkley myself.

Howard needs to play consistently for another month or two before I will feel really confident with him in goal for Everton, and before I want to see him overtake Guzan. He has been excellent this season thus far, bar a goal he let in against Man City that reminded everyone how god awful he was last season.

Lest anyone forget – Howard both committed more mistakes that led to goals and had a lower save percentage than any other regular keeper in the Prem last season. It is going to take more than a month of above average play before I will fully back him again.

    • Quite possibly i think. But an argument can still be made for Chicharito though probably not at this present moment in time

    • Not at the moment, especially given how horrible he was last year for Everton. Clint, Michael Bradley, Fabien Johnson, Jermaine Jones, and probably Brad Guzan would all get my vote over Tim.

Mexico has better individual talent for the most part though not by much.

It’s not about the individual players being better or worse.

It’s about how all 11 play as a team. The US will win if they play better as a team it’s that simple..

    • I would still go with Guzan over Howard at this point in time. Not sure Howard is going to be up for starting for the USA come 2018, and I don’t think Howard is actually better than Guzan at this point in time regardless.

Howard is a media darling which counts for a lot with US fans on SBI.
They don’t care that he is shockingly vulnerable on the near post .

Plus, and this really matters, he took a sabbatical and draped himself with the cloth of Landon martyrdom which really counts with a large sector of SBI people.

At this point there is little to choose between the two. Therefore, I would stick with the incumbent for the playoff and then after that things will take care of themselves.

It’s Guzan and Howard, then Rimando a distant third and then a bunch of guys.
