Once again, Haiti provided little challenge to Carli Lloyd and the rest of theĀ U.S.Women’s National Team.
After thrashing Haiti 5-0 last Thursday, the USWNT went a step further Sunday, claiming an 8-0 victory Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama in the latest stop on the team’s post-World Cup victory tour.
Once again, it was Lloyd who did the damage, as the star midfielder netted her second hat-trick in as many games.
Following a Julie Johnson opener within the first minute, Lloyd provided her first finish in the 16th minute, smashing home a penalty kick earned by Alex Morgan. Lloyd then followed up a 17th minute Crystal Dunn finish with her second five minutes later, finishing a Morgan cross to push the lead to 4-0.
Lloyd made it 5-0 in the 39th minute, flicking a Megan Rapinoe free kick with a headed effort that tapped the cross bar before falling into goal.
Just six minutes into the second half, the U.S. made it six through Amy Rodriguez, who ripped a long-distance effort from outside the box to push the U.S. advantage further than that of Thursday’s blowout.
Goals from Morgan and Heather O’Reilly closed the game, as the duo scored in the 85th and 88th minute, respectively. Morgan’s tally came on an assist from Whitney Engen on a short corner kick, while O’Reilly’s finish capitalized on Haiti’s inability to clear for the eighth and final goal.
The U.S. Women’s National Team continues the post-World Cup victory tour October 21 against Brazil at Seattle’s CenturyLink Field.
I get that so much $$$$$$ is made from these matches and keeping them in the US but do we learn anything from it?
We need to utilize this exposure to turn our womens league into the best on the planet
