Per usual, Argentine star Lionel Messi helped Barcelona to an important victory, but what was unusual was the fact that he came off the bench to do so.
Atlético Madrid took the lead against Barca in the 51st minute, but the lead was short-lived, as Brazilan forward Neymar leveled moments later. Messi, who celebrated the birth of his second son Friday, found the game-winning tally in 77th minute.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s nightmare start to the English Premier League season continued, this time at the hands of an unlikely foe.
Steven Naismith put three past Chelsea Saturday, giving Everton the important victory in front of its home fans at Goodison Park.
Here is a complete look at Sunday’s action across Europe:
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE
Chelsea’s abysmal beginning to their 2015-16 campaign took another hit Saturday as they were handed a 3-1 defeat by Everton, courtesy of a hat trick from Steven Naismith.
Naismith got the best of Asmir Begovic, who was filling in for the injured Thibaut Courtois, twice in the first half before tacking on a late goal to assure the win for the home team.
The loss dropped Chelsea to 15th place in the Premiership, and after five games into the season, the defending league champions have just four points so far.
Over in South London, Manchester City was able to claim a difficult win over Crystal Palace in a battle of the top two table leaders.
Kevin de Bruyne made his debut as a substitute in the first half to replace an injured Sergio Aguero, but it was teenager Kelechi Iheanacho who made the biggest impact of the game when he put home a rebound in the 89th minute for the winner.
City remained perfect on the season with the win and Joe Hart has yet to concede a goal.

Fredy Guarin scored the lone goal in the San Siro derby as Inter defeated Milan to go atop the Serie A table.
Guarin’s goal came in the 58th minute when he unleashed a shot outside the box with his weaker left foot to beat Juan Pablo Carrizo to the bottom-left corner. The win was Inter’s first in the Derby della Madonnina in almost two years, with the last victory coming in December 2013.
Through three weeks of action, Roberto Mancini’s club remains the only team in Serie A to pick up the maximum nine points as Inter is alone atop the league for the first time in nearly five years.
Meanwhile, Juventus’ struggle continues as it had to earn a tough 1-1 draw against Chievo Verona at home.
Perparim Hetemaj broke through early with a goal in the fifth minute and Juventus’ summer signing Paulo Dybala came to the rescue late in the contest by converting a penalty kick in the 83rd to earn the only point Massimiliano Allegri’s club has collected this season.
