The Netherlands did not improve its chances at qualifying for UEFA Euro 2016 Thursday, and new captain Arjen Robben is singling out one of his teammates for doing something “stupid.”

Porto centerback Bruno Martins Indi clashed with striker Kolbeinn Sighthorsson in the 33rd minute and was subsequently shown his marching orders, leaving Holland down to 10 men with a little less than an hour to play.

Gylfi Sigurdsson would eventually score from the penalty spot for Iceland in the second half to defeat the Dutch for the second time in qualification for Euro 2016.

“As captain, I am someone who protects his players, but here I can do nothing else than to say that it is stupid,” Robben told Dutch brodcaster NOS of his disappointment with Martins Indi. “He let his team down and I find that very, very bad.”

Robben suffered a groin injury in the 25th minute and will miss Netherlands’ second September qualifying match Sunday against Turkey.

BARCELONA SET TO BEGIN NEYMAR CONTRACT EXTENSION

Neymar was one of the keys to Barcelona’s successes during the 2014-15 domestic and European seasons, and the Spanish club wants to have him around for much longer.

Barcelona technical director Robert Fernandez told newspaper Sport that the club and Neymar are to begin talks to extend his stay in Spain.

“It’s a negotiation that we will begin very soon, and we will very likely reach an agreement,” Fernandez said.

Neymar will remain under contract with Barcelona until June 2018, and Sunday, he confessed to Sport that the feelings are mutual — he wants to stay despite rumors during the summer transfer window linking him to English Premier League club Manchester United.

“‘I want to stay at Barcelona, no matter how many million pound offers come from England,” Neymar told Sport Sunday. “The people from Barca can be calm. When I hear things like this, I don’t think anything. I just heard it and I am calm. I am very happy at Barca and with my colleagues.”

MEXICO MANAGER FERRETTI MUM ON SQUAD OMISSIONS, SAYS ‘CHICHARITO’ WILL MISS FIRST MATCH

Interim Mexico manager Ricardo ‘Tuca’ Ferretti decided not to bring in familiar faces during the September international window, and he does not want to explain why.

El Tri faces off against Trinidad and Tobago Friday (10 p.m.) and Argentina Tuesday (10:30 p.m.), but Ferretti most notably left brothers Giovani and Jonathan dos Santos, as well as goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, off of his roster for the pair of tune-up friendlies.

“I’m not going to explain the motives why a player is or isn’t selected to the national team,” Ferretti told reporters Thursday. “There’s no indiscipline, simply I have the right to selected the players who come in and (the media has the right) to criticize it.”

Mexico will play the U.S. Men’s National Team on Oct. 10 in the Confederations Cup playoff match, and despite not calling in familiar names, he did not rule them out for the important clash with the U.S.

Meanwhile, Ferretti also told reporters Thursday that Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez will not play Friday, seeing as he only arrived into camp Thursday after the striker finished finalizing a move to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.
