Bobby Wood is beginning to make a habit of scoring some aesthetically-pleasing goals.
Wood netted his third goal of the season for FC Union Berlin on Wednesday by scoring the opener in a late 3-2 defeat on the road to FSV Frankfurt. Wood tallied for the second time in three matches in cool fashion in the 39th minute, collecting a pass in the penalty area under tight pressure and cutting back on his left before turning onto his right and firing a low shot home.
The 22-year-old forward’s goal did not stand as a winner, however. Union Berlin conceded the lead and then went behind when another American, Shawn Barry, got on the scoresheet in the 55th minute. Union Berlin found an equalizer, but surrendered a painful winner in the first minute of stoppage time.
While Wood could not help his club come out on top, his 90-minute performance as the lone striker should help his cause to make the U.S. Men’s National Team squad for the upcoming CONCACAF Cup showdown vs. Mexico. Wood was on the Americans’ preliminary roster, and the finalized team is set to be announced on Oct. 1.

What do you think about Wood’s goal vs. FSV Frankfurt? Does he look like a more confident player to you these days? Want him on the USMNT’s roster for the CONCACAF Cup vs. Mexico?

Blame MLS
Blame Europe for not allowing our boys to play there without an EU passport
Soo Bobby Woods scored in the lower Bundesliga league and now we should hand him a spot on the Nats in the biggest game since the World Cup.?
My we have such low standards now
Martha,
“Woods scored in the lower Bundesliga league and now we should hand him a spot on the Nats in the biggest game since the World Cup.?”
That’s not why..
He has a chance to play vs Mexico because overall, he has been playing well for the USMNT in his last few appearances.
Any video of Barry’s goal?
my point exactly…MLS giving roster spots to Jamaicans, while our guys are toiling in the German 2nd Div.
Pretty sire he is making much more than he would in MLS and definitely a higher level of competition.
and whats your evidence that 2nd Div German soccer is a higher standard than MLS???
A number of US stars have struggled in Bundesliga 2.
What do you mean by higher standard?
It is pretty difficult to compare two Leagues who never play each other.
However Kenny Cooper Jr. was a big scorer for FC Dallas and flopped at 1860 Munich, for whatever that is worth. And a fair number of USMNT players played there such as Gregg Berhalter
Not sure what he is making now but a couple years ago he was on 70,000.
BW is a warrior.
All i gathered on Berry is he is a fullback, either side, out of Fort Lauderdale and UVA. Transferred from a team in Austria this year and this is his first goal, assisted on one earlier this year. Can we get him on the Americans Abroad section?!
He should start against Mexico! Right guys??! Right?! Guys???…
Dude, shut up
wow really? you can’t detect sarcasm, EH?……………….
He can’t.
He’s not on the preliminary roster.
Bobby Wood’s goal was quite Dempsey like, calm and poise in front of the goal!
Who’s Shawn Berry and where did he come from? I don’t remember seeing his name anywhere before.
Good question. Who is this Shawn Berry? Did the author intend to write “Armenian” instead of “American”? Or is he using the word “American” in the broader sense to mean anyone from Canada to southern tip of Chile?
Seriously! Looks like he played at UVA then…scoring in the 2. Bundesliga.
Pretty impressive rise. AND he plays fullback???
hmmmmmm
Well last year he was in the 2nd division of Austria with LASK linz. He has been with that club the last 4 years. This is his first year with Frankfurt in the 2nd Bundesliga and had 2 starts for them this year. He is 25, a defender from Florida and played 2 years at UVA.
