The U.S. Men’s National Team returns to action for the first time since the 2015 Gold Cup when they face Peru tonight at RFK Stadium (7:30pm, Fox Sports 1/UniMas).

The Americans have a crucial Confederations Cup playoff match against Mexico in October, and tonight’s friendly is one of two matches the U.S. has to prepare itself for that all-important match. Jurgen Klinsmann has called in a veteran group of players, and will be looking for combinations that can help his team against Mexico.

Jermaine Jones is back in the field after a long time away, while Jozy Altidore is back in the lineup after a disappointing Gold Cup. He will wear the captain’s armband today.

SBI will be providing live commentary on tonight’s match so please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action (Tonight’s commentary is after the jump, and YES, IT’S WORKING NOW):

    • Maybe because Brooks and Alvarado are about 6 years younger than Besler and Cameron and Klinsmann is looking at the next WC. Cameron wasn’t in the Gold Cup because either he or his club wanted him to recover from injury and be ready for the next EPL season.

also kinda crazy to come to this thread in the 75′ and read all the Jozy hate for pages and then a sudden stop… lol. PK earned, rebound finished, then a second “wondo”(lol) goal. cool. blame jozy for the lack of passing from the back, etc…right…

tough game to watch but we’re plodding through like a good team would (?)

    • I looked it up yesterday. McBride got his 30 goals in 95 games, Jozy has 29 in 84. Wtynalda had 34 in 106, so Jozy’s scoring rate is now a bit better than both McBride and Wynalda. But the haters will continue to hate.

  1. All you experts, and nothing much to say about our recently anointed one Brad Guzan, watching the game from a point way off his line. paid the price!

  2. Jozy clearly lacking fitness and so is bedoya. Jones seems to be slightly ahead of those two fitness wise. Gyasi fit as a fiddle and perhaps the only bright spot. Gonnzo needed to step up, not back, on that play – ha. Appropriately subbed for Ventura. I must say, jozy valiantly came into the game after he slowed down. First ten minutes good, next 30 terrible, last 5 not too bad. Should be 1-1, Brooks. jozy and bedoya obviously lacking fitness but they need the minutes. At least jozy linked up, wood was unable to put any stamp on the gme at all – and they have no chemistry, those two. All things considered, strange he didn’t start johannsson up top with alti.

    • Gotta disagree. Gonzo played it right. If you commit too early, then you are vulnerable to being dribbled around. I have had that happen to me. Omar got the block in, it was a total fluke goal. Later in the game in a similar situation Ream played the attacker the exact same way, but he didn’t shoot and Ream cut him off and Friedel complimented Ream for playing it just right.

  3. Some of these boys need to watch the U.S. women…including Altidore. They would get a lesson on how to play with passion and heart.

Jones is the only one out there that plays with some cajones.

  4. I like klinsnam maybe I’m a fanboy but man he needs to get these guys motivated, wood n Jozy look like they just came off the special bus. Midfield with bedoya looks crap. The defense looks ok ppl killing Alvarado and brooks for getting burned but at least they aren’t trying to play free safety in front of the box…… Omar

    • Coaching regimes have an expiration date. Looks like Klinsmann’ s has ran its course and he has lost the locker room. I haven’t seen a team so uninterested since…… the gold cup. He needs to go.

  5. Just brutal with young lions and one king in jj we can’t attack as a pack even in the counter there is always 1 or 2 left not finding positions to help out the team. Is it the formation?

  6. 1. Other than one sequence, seems Jones is a bit off.
    2. Zardes looks good.
    3. (Un)lucky goal
    4. Jozy meh
    5. Midfield isn’t well gelled.
    6. Back line seems ok.

    • I agree. The team seem a bit more gelled with Jones as DM, more control of the tempo, while our forwards seem like headless chickens.

  7. What’s bedoyas purpose on this team? He just takes up space with very little production. This game is so bad for the U.S. So far they look lazy

  8. And all the fanboys with their heads up Klinsman’s rectum say “he’s a great coach; he took Germany to the final 4 in 2006.” News Flash: it’s GERMANY. A brain dead monkey could take Germany to the quarterfinals. Klinsman took them one game farther than a brain dead monkey.

    • blah blah blah. Maybe you should hold off on all your bellyaching until after the game. Looks like JK just made you “William the Bi+ch.”

  9. Seriously Jozy is slow.. He slows down the whole team. He strtuts as if he’s better than everyone out there just cause he played in the EPL once upon a time
