The Netherlands are on the brink of missing the European Championship next summer, and failed qualification could see the return of a top German coach to the sidelines.

According to Express, Jurgen Klopp may be next in line to take charge of Holland should the team fail to qualify for Euro 2016.

Former manager Guus Hiddink stepped down in early August, while Danny Blind took charge. However, two losses, one to Iceland and another to Turkey, during the September international window has left the Netherlands in fourth place with only two games to play.

Klopp told German outlet Focus that he would like his next job to be at a top club, but he also made the point that other projects need help and excite him. If signed, Klopp would break the Netehrlands’ trend of hiring domestically, as he would become the first head coach not from Holland since 1977-78.

Here are some more news and notes from around the world:

ROONEY TO MISS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GAME AGAINST PSV

Jumping from international duty back into club duty has taken its toll on England captain Wayne Rooney.

After suffering from a hamstring injury during training last week, causing him to miss Manchester United’s 3-1 win against Liverpool on Saturday, Rooney is going to miss another game.

Manchester United announced its 20-man roster for its UEFA Champions League Group Stage opener against PSV Eindhoven Tuesday, and Rooney was not listed by head coach Louis Van Gaal.

‘CHICHARITO’ HAPPY WITH BAYER LEVERKUSEN DEBUT BUT NOT RESULT

Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez made his first Bundesliga appearance Saturday, but it wasn’t the kind of debut he wanted.

Despite only training with his new club once after returning from international duty with Mexico, Bayer Leverkusen head coach Roger Schmidt substituted Chicharito on after 58 minutes.

The forward produced one shot on frame, a header in the 77th minute, but it was easily saved. The game would end 1-0 in favor of Darmstadt.

“I am delighted to have made my debut,” Hernandez told reporters following the game. “But I am not delighted about the result.”

Up next for Leverkusen and Hernandez is BATE Borisov in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. Then, they travel to face Borussia Dortmund Sunday.
