A player of Carlos Vela’s caliber will always attract interest from teams around the world, teams that apparently include several in MLS.

Vela hinted on Wednesday that offers from MLS were among several he received this summer. The Mexico international ultimately opted to remain with La Liga side Real Sociedad, the club he has called home since 2012, but was intrigued by the possibility of playing near his homeland.

“There were several options,” Vela told Marca. “Truthfully, it was interesting to be able to be close to my home country and it makes you second-guess what you want. But it didn’t happen, so I continue here.

“I’m with Real Sociedad and I want to help my teammates to do well. Until January I will be happy with Real. In January, I do not know what can happen.Whenever there is a market open, options for things happen.”

Vela has represented Mexico 46 times, scoring 13 goals in an El Tri career that has been tumultuous. The 26-year-old winger was recently among 33 players selected to Mexico’s preliminary roster for the upcoming CONCACAF Cup with the U.S. Men’s National Team.

What do you think of Vela’s statements? How would he fare in MLS? Which teams would you expect to be interested?

      • he said he thought about it but he rejected it, then he talked about the transfer windows, what I meant is that those “open doors” aren’t just for MLS, he has interest in Europe as well and he also said he would only leave Sociedad when the relation with the club gets bad which isn’t the case.

  1. It would be a good get for MLS, still in his prime years. Interesting that we didn’t hear about this during the window, must not have been to serious at the time. Also, how does that effect his time with Sociedad when he openly says I think I might leave in January?
