While the MLS Disciplinary Committee had a busy week dishing out fines and suspensions alike, it also shortened the length of one.
Philadelphia Union midfielder Cristian Maidana was shown a red card for apparently spitting at Lee Nguyen four minutes into stoppage time in the Union’s match against the New England Revolution last Saturday.
The Disciplinary Committee had originally given Maidana an additional two-game suspension for the incident, but in a release Friday, his suspension was reduced to just one additional game, meaning Maidana will miss one match for the red card and another handed down to him from the committee.
Toronto FC midfielder Collen Warner has also been suspended two games and was fined for a tackle on Dominic Oduro on Saturday. The committee deemed his challenge too dangerous, citing that Warner “endangered the safety of his opponent.”
LA Galaxy defender Leonardo was fined for failure to leave the field in a timely manner after he was shown a red card in his team’s 1-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes last Friday.
Meanwhile, Chicago Fire and U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team midfielder Matt Polster was fined for his engagement with a fan during his side’s draw with Orlando City SC Saturday.
What do you think about the Disciplinary Committee’s decisions? Think Maidana deserved a two-game ban?

This post was funnier when it read “MLS Disco” and all the original comments were still here…
Bummer, man…
Not sure I really understand why Maidana’s suspension was reduced. Dude spit on an opponent – absolutely unacceptable behavior.
Talk about adding insult to injury – that call on Leonardo was horrid. Now he gets to get slapped twice.
